The joke is making fun of a person that is not well educated. Normally someone that hasn't finished high school. It is in bad taste to say the least. I have many honorable friends that never finished high school. They are hard workers. They love the Lord and sometimes I think they are far more blessed spiritually than us thinkers are. There isn't much of a disconnect between the head and their heart. Jesus died for them too and there will probably be more of them in heaven than us.

Unless you are thinking the cop never finished high school, you have it all wrong.

The good ol' boy is having fun with the cop. He understands perfectly well what the cop is asking.

Good ol' boys are not dumb. This fact is well known here in the south, but perhaps not appreciated elsewhere.

Shane, I live here. This is my turf. We like this joke BECAUSE it is clean and doesn't victimize anybody (well, maybe it's having a bit of fun at the expense of the cop, but it is innocent fun.)

There's plenty of real stuff to get on me about. This is not it. Try something else.
