GreatLakesGramma Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 A SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE... IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN THE SOP - YOU ARE NOT AN ADVENTIST. Um, se7en, if by SOP, you are referring specifically to Ellen White's ministry, the Church has removed that from the baptismal vows in recent years. So, according to the official church position, you're wrong. Not that I totally disagree with you, but just thought I should point that out. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis

Interesting that our founder James White didn't agree with this. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Rich Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 SOP? Do you mean the Holy Spirit as it says in Revelation? Quote
se7en Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 I mean the Spirit of Prophecy - writings of ellen white. the same spirit inspired ellen and john and peter. Quote
Members abelisle Posted May 24, 2010 Members Posted May 24, 2010 Hmm . . . ??? If there were no SOP, could Adventists still be Adventists with only the Bible? "sola scriptura" It seems by your statement that belief in the SOP is more than creedal but absolutely essential. I disagree. Matter of fact EGW said that if everyone would study their Bibles as they should, there would be no need for the SOP. Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com

"sola scriptura" Yes, but without the Spirit of prophecy, the SDA church wouldn't exist as it is today. It would have fallen apart a long time ago, like almost all of the groups that came out of the Millerite Movement. The SDA church is the only one of those groups that has really succeeded and is growing. Without God's guidance through her, we would have fallen by the wayside probably in the 1850s and then again in the 1880s and about 1900 with Kellogg's false beliefs. Ellen White helped us get through a lot of problems and not only survive but actually prosper. Quote: It seems by your statement that belief in the SOP is more than creedal but absolutely essential. I disagree. Matter of fact EGW said that if everyone would study their Bibles as they should, there would be no need for the SOP. Matter of fact, she also said that if people had been obeying God's law in the beginning, God wouldn't have needed to give the law from Sinai, and if they'd have obeyed the Ten Commandments at Sinai, God wouldn't have had to give them the rest of the books of Moses. But since that is the case, does it mean we throw away the books of Moses or the Ten Commandments? But you are absolutely right that if people had been studying and obeying their Bible's as God intended, God wouldn't have had to raise up a prophet during the 1840s. Yet the reality is that we all need the Spirit of prophecy because almost no one is studying and obeying like they should. In fact, the church as a whole still doesn't study and obey the Bible, let alone the exra help God sent to us through Ellen White. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
