Neil D Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Ok,.... Yesterday, I am wondering how to start a new church? If I am a member of a traditional church, and want a more grace orientated church, how do I start one without creating anomosity between the traditional church and the grace orientated church? How do I avoid being labeled "Celebration Church"? [not that it's a bad thing] Do I tell the pastor what I am thinking? Will he be upset with me for not inviting him into the grace orientated church? I think I have about 4 familys that are interested in a grace orientated church...How do I get adventists who are not coming to tradtional church [for whatever reasons, ie disaffected, don't like traditional church, don't like the people of traditional church, ect] to give this grace orientated church a try? How do I try to reach back sliden Adventists in the area? How do I try to reach NEW people of non-adventist persuasion? How do I know when I have suceeded in creating a new church? Dr. Rich Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Neil, move to SE CA and copy what other pastors are doing around here. But way start one? Just go to one of the many that have started already. They meet on Sat and Sun to get all the money they can from both Sabbath keepers and Sunday worshipers. Yes, people will actually give money to people if they make them feel safe and secure while mistakenly believing they are saved by grace alone. Quote

Stan Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 One of the best and most effective ways to 'reach' inactive members is to start a new group. There is often so much baggage with the old one that they will never darken the doors. Start by meeting in the afternoon and not in an Adventist Church. Moderators lazarus Posted May 10, 2010 Moderators Posted May 10, 2010 Ok,.... Yesterday, I am wondering how to start a new church? Here's an organization run by SDA's who have done/are doing it. Check them out . I have an ex-colleague who is pastoring at a church plant under their direction. http://www.missioncatalyst.org/ Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Dr. Rich Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I guess the 'narrow road' scares the heck out of them so they jumped on the wide road believing they are now free from the law. Quote

This is interesting! When u say grace orientated are you rally talking about grace or it about music, dress, preaching style, i.e. church culture. How would a grace orientated church, in a practical sense, differ from a traditional church? Not a challenge, just asking. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. I wonder also if you are meaning worship style or just non-legalistic. I say this because I know of many tradition folk who I feel walk by grace. You can find people who are spiritually hurting and "going through the motions" in a contemporary, liberal church environment also. I know, because I minister to a couple of them. Administrators Gail Posted May 10, 2010 Administrators Posted May 10, 2010 Neil, why not try a vespers in somebody's home first? That way you can utilize DVDs, book studies and whatever music you'd like. You can gain a spiritual blessing plus get to know some people fairly intimately. Neil you said you had a few families already interested, so just begin there. And like brother Stan has mentioned, start out in the afternoon, just incase some of these families don't want to leave the mother church as of yet. Eventually if the get together is something you all like, than word of mouth will get others interested. As far as being successful, you will know as the group starts to increase. Neil, I would also talk with the pastor see what his thoughts are, sometimes we don't give them enough credit as to what there going to say. Good luck in your endeavor. If this is something that God approve's he will bless. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted May 10, 2010 Moderators Posted May 10, 2010 I suspect it's likely to be very difficult to do so without conflict with the existing SDA church in the area... and also that it'd be hard to make it a recognised SDA church or company. If that's not an important goal for the congregation you're starting, that's OK. Otherwise, I guess the idea is to make it a 'church plant' some distance from the existing church... but even then it would flow more easily if it was seen as an evangelistic project of the existing church rather than a rebellion against it... Short answer - there is no easy way! Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Start off on the right foot. Tell your pastor you are interested in a new church plant. Get her on your side. It doesn't have to be competition. Come clean. Tell her what you are doing. Ask her advice. (Not that you have to follow it) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Neil D Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Why does the name "Ron Gladden" sound familiar? And yes, am thinking of starting in a home, on friday nights...Am thinking that giving and recieving grace in relationships will create a bonding experience....so am thinking that giving and recieving grace is a good thing..... On a lighter note, anyone interested in joinging???? Looking for a megachurch pastor.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Woody Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 What kind of salary are you paying for this megapastor? If the price is right ... I might try to help find her for you. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Rich Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 As I said earlier, it is all about the MONEY and not the truth. Hmm? Quote

Dr. Rich Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I guess your idea about truth is not the same as Jesus' idea. Quote
