karl Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Quote: Recently on "The O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly seemed very concerned about President Obama being described as a socialist.... ... to a Brit who has seen his fair share of socialists and lives in a socialist country run by a self-described socialist party by a self-described socialist prime minister who has taken over for another self-described socialist prime minister, it is puzzling why self-described independents like Mr O'Reilly are doing backflips in an attempt to avoid the obvious fact -- President Obama is quite clearly a socialist. Ted Oplinger Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Perhaps it is because no one wants to really face up to the hard, cold truth: America has been in a "civil war" for a couple of decades now - and only the socialism side has been fighting the war. Socialism was "the enemy" as long as it was a European thing; now that it's an American issue, fighting it means fighting our brothers/sisters just as hard as we brought down the USSR - the United Soveriegn SOCIALIST Republics (they never believed themselves to be communists in the purest sense - just farther down the socialism trail than the West). What is being passed as "fairness for XXX" is simply meant to be a one-way ticket to totalitarian rule - tyranny. What better way to achieve tyranny than to make it appear as desireable as somthing "fair" and "just" to the masses.... Obama's already said what he'd do if elected, and no one took him seriously. Now that he's doing just what he said he would do, no one wants to admit it. O'Reilly needs to pu himself on his own self-described "pinheads" list for his genuflecting around Obama...as he's certainly not looking out for us there... To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. karl Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 It is fair to characterize the Obama tax "reforms" as socialist, in that they both increase wealth redistribution and increase the proportion of wealth allocated by government. The Obama administration claims that its plan reduces tax revenue as a fraction of GDP, but this is misleading: A significant amount of the Obama tax plan consists of new “refundable tax credits,” which are effectively welfare payments handled by the IRS. To illustrate why this is a socialist practice, consider the extreme case in which the tax code did nothing but take property from the top 5% of earners and distribute it as “tax refunds” to everyone else. The Obama campaign would argue that in this case the government has no (net) tax revenue, but this arrangement meets every definition of classical socialism since the government actively redistributes (steals and gives away) the wealth of some of its citizens.
