"And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel; only let us be called by thy Name, to take away our reproach."

How do you explain this text? does it have dual meaning? dual application? If yes, what are its meaning and applications?

This question was asked by a member of another adventist forum. Here is my reply for whatever it is worth:

Since the number "7" means completion it must represent the federation of all churches which will comprise Babylon the great in these last days,,, they eat their own bread, that is, they eat what their teachers, leaders, and theologians feed them with no questions asked, they wear their own apparel which is their own righteousness; their teachers and leaders profess to be building God's kingdom on earth but they insist in doing it their own way instead of God's way; and wish to be identified as God's people to take away their shame. Sunday observance will be their badge, the sign of man taking the place of God in the church.

That "one man" must represent the man Christ Jesus in the persons of His few followers through whom the last message of mercy shall be given to the world.

The professed church of Christ could possibly join the "seven women" in these last days:

"The Lord has a controversy with His professed people in these last days. In this controversy men in responsible positions will take a course directly opposite to that pursued by Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but they will try to keep it from others by burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministers will urge upon our people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week." Review and Herald, Vol.1, p.405.

What think ye?
