Voice: I think I must have dialed the wrong number.

Me: No, I think you dialed the right number.

Voice: Who am I talking to?

Voice: Yes, I did want to talk to you. I will hang up and call you right back.

I never respond with my name when someone calls me and asks "Who is this?" I always respond with "Who are you calling?" If they give my name then I acknowledge, nuff sed

I have caller ID and based upon that I knew that they needed to talk to me and needed to know my name. Otherwise, I do not give out my name. I simple ask who they wanted to talk to.

I enjoy giving telemarketers a bad time. So, when they ask "Is this Woody" ... I say that I'm sorry but I don't give out personal information over the phone.

I also have caller ID, if I don't know the person it says is calling or I see no name I don't answer the phone. When I didn't have caller ID and I answered the phone and the person asked me who is this, I too would say who are you trying to call?

When I answer the phone I say "Ellen" speaking. So if they say Mrs. "Smith" I know they don't know me.

Anyone who calls here and I say my name they know it is Mrs. "Smith". So I tell them "she can't come to the phone" or "she isn't here. That works every time.

If people are asking for money I have gotten bold enough to just tell them I'm not giving them any money - no more excuses or beating around the bush.
