Members abelisle Posted May 22, 2010 Members Posted May 22, 2010 Obviously she was affected by 19th century science and equated electricity with the workings of our neurological system and equated erroneous healing practices (plus mesmerism/hypnotism with magnetism. My (original) thought on this is that we don't completely understand the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) and it is quite likely that there is what I call "spiritual energy" that incorporates what we presently understand about electricity and magnetism. Is this reference to "power" possibly a hint at this "spiritual energy" I'm speaking about? Please read Mark 5:27-31 Jesus recognized that power had gone out from him and asked who had touched his clothes. His "power" in this case was healing power. Will we ever have this? Do modern-day faith healers attempt to harness this power in the name of Christ? If so, how does it work? Is faith the catalyst? Just some thoughts. Am I demonstrating symptoms of weirdness? Members phkrause Posted May 22, 2010 Members Posted May 22, 2010 Its interesting Alex that you should say something about EGW than follow it up with a reference from the Bible! Could you give a reference of what you mean that EGW said on this? Thanks pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Moderators Bravus Posted May 23, 2010 Moderators Posted May 23, 2010 It's definitely and interesting thought. We do know the electromagnetic spectrum pretty well, but Einstein spent the last half of his life trying to link those forces with gravity, so maybe God - scratch that, of course God - has the Grand Unified Theory of everything and understands forms of power and energy that we don't. And our minds are electrochemical in their operation, so on one hand EGW's linking of these forces makes sense. On the other, it was the late 19th century. Electricity, magnetism and mind were all *far* less understood than now: the electron was not even discovered until 1897. Some of her statements ought to be understood in that context, not interpreted as though she understood those words the way we do. Quote Truth is important
Guest Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Alex, it's funny that you would start a thread about what EGW says of electricity and magnetism, in a forum where you can't quote anything she said about it. Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 23, 2010 Administrators Posted May 23, 2010 Science has shown support for the value (is a power) of touch. It goes beyond a mere emotional/psychological effect. There is physical benefit to one human touching another. Have you ever felt a tingling sensation at the touch of someone special beyond the mere sensation of something else touching you? That connection has power in it that is not present in the same sensation of pressure applied by something or someone without the same personal connection. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
cardw Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I can verify that touch is very powerful. I touch people for a living and I can attest that there is a whole spectrum of sensations that are not measurable within the magnetic spectrum. The frequencies and sensory systems that make up our bodies are very complex and very sensitive. Just as we learn to listen to music and gain the ability to hear separate instruments, so can we do much the same with touch. Most people are so sensory overloaded that they can't "hear" or feel all that is available. Plus we don't have a vocabulary for touch since it is so taboo in our culture. And most of our religious systems are so afraid of touch that they have isolated most of us from each other because religious groups can't tell the difference between sexual touch and touch for communication and healing. The ability to touch skillfully can be mastered and disciplined just as much as a professional musician. An example of how deeply we misunderstand the bio-electric system of the body is how most medical scientists approach the brain. They are looking to the synapse for consciousness and most of the processing of the mind. The problem with this approach is that if this was how we processed most of the things we are able to do with the mind almost instantly, we would have to break the first law of thermodynamics. This is easily illustrated by the limits of computer processors to increase their clock rate to process more data. The heat from CPUs already require sophisticated cooling systems and they don't even come close to what the mind processes in terms of facial and object recognition alone. Considering how Victorian EGW was I doubt she had some kind of advanced understanding of this. What I have read of her I would say she simply reflected the beliefs of her times including a confidence in Phrenology and a fear of Charlatan spiritualists. (The Fox sisters ultimately admitted the whole rapping thing was a fake and she took her son for a phrenological evaluation.) Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8
Members abelisle Posted June 21, 2010 Author Members Posted June 21, 2010 Hi Rich, I really think you must have a cool job touching everyone but I'm not going to go there. Do you think the popular concept of "soul" has any connection with our mysterious electromagnetic spectrum that pertains to our physiology - you know, that mysterious, complex and sensitive? I know I'm sort of looking for a grand unification theory (GUT) but I have this sneaky feeling that there are mysteries out there that are way beyond our understanding. Einstein explore this area and ende up with his relativity theory. Who knows? Is our consciousness embedded within the laws of thermodynamics? Energy abounds and it abounds infinitely. Maybe God is pure energy who/that (I AM THAT/WHO I AM) takes on a persona for our measly anthropomorphic understanding? Okay, that's enough for now. I smell the defenders of our faith seeking for blood. Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
cardw Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I believe that consciousness exists outside time and space. I haven't figured out a way to explain it within a mechanistic understanding of the Universe. There are a number of working examples of quantum computing, but even if you had unlimited computational ability, I don't believe you could write an equation for consciousness. There are vast networks of clear microtubules throughout the body that may form some type of light computing, but I think they are pathways for information and energy in various forms. We also have a vast network of organic crystals that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy through a piezoelectric process. If you quiet your mind you can learn to feel all kinds of different frequencies even off the body. Most of us feel these subconsciously, but we have so much chatter going on they we never learn to isolate them and recognize how they change. Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8
Members abelisle Posted June 21, 2010 Author Members Posted June 21, 2010 Be still and know God, relates to your ideas. I like this. And consciousness - does it transcends our visceral life as when we die? Energy flow in our bodies - acupuncture simply accesses these venues, eh? and music stimulates certain frequencies that affect our behavior? Have you heard the anecdotal info pertaining to Lucifer being in charge of the angelic choir and being able to sing on multiple levels simultaneously? Maybe in a quantum universe, consciousness (aka "soul") exists both within the totality of the human body and as an ineffable, noetic quality?
