Members phkrause Posted May 24, 2010 Members Posted May 24, 2010 This is a pretty interesting topic and post olger. I say this because I believe that John had kind of predicted that this would become an issue for the church someday. Looks like its here sooner than later. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted May 24, 2010 Moderators Posted May 24, 2010 It might be worth noting that the materials that were stopped from being handed out were not so much 'promoting creation' as attacking particular professors at the university. Not arguing the point that some priorities appear to be out of step with the views of the broader church at LSU, but it's important to be honest in confronting that situation. GreatLakesGramma Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I was just thinking that same thing, Bravus. The student got permission to write a paper expressing his views on a subject. The school was not endorsing his views, just allowing him to express them. He has a right to do that. The other student was passing out a message criticizing the school. He has a right to do that too, but the school also has a right to forbid him to do it on school grounds. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. The student views were criticizing not not only the standard of the church but all Christians who uphold that practice, including his fellow students and any professor who taught that standard in LSU's classroom. In reality, unless the school was nuetral on the practice of homosexuality, his criticism was directed at school policy. Would it be acceptabale for the Criteron to publish an article on why Sabbath keeping was unbiblical and how those who promoted it were unChristian? The fact that specific personalities were left out doesn't change the nature of the equation. GreatLakesGramma Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Doug, I forgot when I said that that his paper was actually an article published in the school paper. For some reason, I had it in my mind that he had written a paper for a class. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
