Members abelisle Posted June 7, 2010 Members Posted June 7, 2010 Believe it or not but the incessant noise of the internet is slowly cluttering our minds. Losing my mind may not be such a bad thing though since we gain some good things by it (internet) also. Check out this interesting article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/books/...inds&st=cse Sometimes I feel like HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey: "My mind is going. I can feel it." Ever get that feeling? Sometimes when I spend too much time on this forum, I get that way. My wife always told me I think weirdly. Alex (has anyone seen my mind - think I lost it somewhere in this forum?) Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com

GreatLakesGramma Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Did you read the entire article? The reviewer cited evidence that the author who lamented the internet's effect on the brain is wrong, that the internet and related technologies are actually good for the mind. Quote: Carr’s argument also breaks down when it comes to idle Web surfing. A 2009 study by neuroscientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that performing Google searches led to increased activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, at least when compared with reading a “book-like text.” Interestingly, this brain area underlies the precise talents, like selective attention and deliberate analysis, that Carr says have vanished in the age of the Internet. Google, in other words, isn’t making us stupid — it’s exercising the very mental muscles that make us smarter. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. GreatLakesGramma Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 My screen never looks like that. It's too "busy," and I don't like clutter. Anyway, I don't browse the internet, and I still read books.
