Members abelisle Posted June 9, 2010 Members Posted June 9, 2010 Went to my gym this morning with my wife and I saw an older man (at least older than I) who I thought I recognized. It was one of our pastors in the GNYC - Pastor Kuma (68 yrs. old) who is the director of our Multi-ethnic division here in the GNYC. This is the first time in my life that I saw one of our pastors working out and he wasn't just going through the motions; he knew what he was doing. He was even wearing a lifting belt. We were genuinely happy to see each other. Recently he was in my church giving the sermon and I was the elder in charge of the platform participants. I remarked how great it would be not only for more members to work out(exercise) but to see their leadership setting an example as he was. I brought my wife over to introduce her (she's our church clerk) and he recognized her immediately. I'm curious. Do any of you know pastors or other church leaders who work out? SivartM Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I don't know, but even if I become a pastor... I'm never going to work out at a gym. EDIT: No offense... I just don't exercise around other people. I know of some pastors who have exercise equipment at home and exercise in the privacy of their rec. room. :) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Outta Here Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Our pastor and his family are members of their local YMCA. They work out on a regular basis and have been previously selected as the "YMCA Fit Family" for the year. Their reward? They were the cover photo for one of the YMCA publications. Quote
Liz Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Well not our pastor, but the husband and wife team that took over the Pathfinders club, and they do a lot for the childrens programs; they run (they talk about being in training) and play on a softball team. GreatLakesGramma Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 One of our previous pastors was an athlete in school, and continued to lift weights as an adult, and as a pastor. I used to work out, but several injuries brought that to an end. I'm still hoping to get back into it someday. I hate being out of shape. I agree Gerry, we even have great health mags with great articles and recipes but fail to follow because its easier to eat fast foods. Don't get me wrong I did the same for years. Even though I did play sports and eat as best I could. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

We do what we WANT to do when it comes to diet. Nobody forces us to eat junk food or even quantities of real food that are injurious to our health. We can claim to be addicts, but nobody has ever had to go to a detox center for eating health food. Quote
