SivartM Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Does anyone here have any sort of e-reader? Which kind? Which kind do you think I should get? Because I really want one... I looked at a Nook today at Barnes & Noble, and it looks really cool! And the Wi-Fi-only version (the one I want) is only $149! Moderators Bravus Posted June 25, 2010 Moderators Posted June 25, 2010 I'm very tempted, 'cos I tend to go on a lot of long flights and have to carry a lot of books with me. I'd like to get an iPad, just 'cos it can do more than a dedicated reader, but realistically I have all that functionality in other devices, and the dedicated readers probably do a better job of actual reading stuff with their passive screens and so on. Maybe a Kindle or Nook - will wait a while for things to pan out and prices to drop further... Quote Truth is important
SivartM Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Yeah, an iPad would be cool except for the price and the screen, which is not as good for reading in sunlight as an e-ink screen. Kindles and Nooks do have web browsers and music players. Not super-great ones, but functional ones. I want to wait for prices to drop more (they just dropped this week, though, so it'll be a while...), but then again, they'll just drop again no matter when I get it. I hate that. I can buy a 17" macbook pro for the same price I bought my 15" I bought 5 years ago. If I had only waited. GreatLakesGramma Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I downloaded Kindle for PC to my laptop. It's free, but I think it's a stripped down version of the actual device. It's nice to read from, & you can set bookmarks and take notes, but in this free version, you can't organize your books into categories and file them. Every book you have is on the main page. Downloading is very quick and easy. I don't have any purchased books, just free ones. I don't know at this point if I want to spend any money on Kindle books. Outta Here Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 My daughter uses a Kindle and she loves it. My husband reads books on his iPod. The two of them are able to share their book collections with one another for free--one of them purchases the e-book and both are able to access it. Quote
Outta Here Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 If you check out woot.com, sometimes they have refurbished e-readers for cheap! Quote
