karl Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Gary Hubbell: The Redneck tree hugger Barack Obama has awakened a sleeping nation Aspen Times Weekly http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20100228/ASPENWEEKLY/100229854&parentprofile=search Quote: Despite the fact that he has some of the lowest approval ratings among recent presidents, history will see Barack Obama as the source of America's resurrection. Barack Obama has plunged the country into levels of debt that we could not have previously imagined; his efforts to nationalize health care have been met with fierce resistance nationwide; TARP bailouts and stimulus spending have shown little positive effect on the national economy; unemployment is unacceptably high and looks to remain that way for most of a decade; legacy entitlement programs have ballooned to unsustainable levels, and there is a seething anger in the populace. Dr. Shane Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 That is one good thing about Obama. There are many others too. I would like to see a positive thread on the Prez. Woody Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 His policies have hurt so many people ... that I feel the postive aspect of his presidency is that more people are starting to get involved as evidenced by the Tea Party. Can each member list off one positive thing that Obama is doing for the country? Did you read the article? You may have misinterpreted what is being said there. The author is NOT complimenting Obama. He is complimenting the conservative reaction to Obama and saying that Obama's bungling of nearly all aspects of his presidency has opened the eyes of US citizens to the threat that big government poses to this country. Can each member list off one positive thing that Obama is doing for the country? One positive thing that I see Obama accomplishing is the destruction of the American illusion that any change is better than a perceived negative direction, and that an appealing public persona, nebulus policy positions, intellectual "depth", and an adoring media support does not necessarily translate into fitness for being elected as President of the most important nation on earth.Sounds pretty positive to me...considering. Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted July 15, 2010 Moderators Posted July 15, 2010 One positive thing that I see Obama accomplishing is the destruction of the American illusion that any change is better than a perceived negative direction, and that an appealing public persona, nebulus policy positions, intellectual "depth", and an adoring media support does not necessarily translate into fitness for being elected as President of the most important nation on earth. At the national election in 2008 we were presented with two options for president. Obama was clearly the better of the two. His crises now are partially man-made [i.e., the sour grapes Repubs, vowing to oppose everything our President stands for] and partially natural disasters. He's doing a great job considering the hand he's been dealt. It takes no brains to sit on the sidelines and complain. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....

I know that and he has to deal with that himself. That is a matter he can take to God in prayer. But for those of us in this forum, we can do better than the author. We can look for the good. Anyone can criticize, it takes a real noble man to look for the good. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

This is what politics has come to. I think it all goes back to Democrat Speaker of the House Tip O'Neil. When Ronald Reagan was elected President, O'Neil proclaim the Democrat Party to be the opposition party. He would oppose everything the President wanted. Ever since then the rules of the game have remained the same. Party politics come first and the common welfare of the people comes later. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Exactly and it started way before that and it was a republican senator who, I'm not gonna name names here, when asked about a vote on the floor and which way he was gonna vote and he asked was it a demo or repub bill and the reporter said it was a dem bill and the senator said he had no intention of voting for it. This has been going on ever since I was old enough to vote, which would be back in '68. This is not a Tip thing, and I never liked Tip one iota, I would love to place this on him. And yes its gotten worse every year since Nixon took office, that's when it really started. And yes its gotten worse every year since Nixon took office, that's when it really started. We have a two party system for a reason. I know many that would never vote for a dem bill, some without knowing what was in it,same for dems voting for republican bill. As a republican what is there about something sponsored by a dem that would induce me to vote for it. I can't think of one single bill brought by democrats that I can agree with. If the end result may be something I would like to see,how we would get there and the strings that come with it would not be. I think that Libermen is a decent man,but at the end of the day at heart he is a democrat and will vote that way. It is about more than a single bill.It is about lending support to a party you don't have anything in common with Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
