purgatory release?

My great grandparents were Catholics and a priest performed the funeral rites when my gr grandpa died.. My gr grandma was told that she needed to pay the priest to get her husband out of purgatory. She paid, but was told she needed to pay more because his feet were still in purgatory. The cost would be 2 cents. She said she wasn't going to pay because his feet always *had* been cold. This was back in the late 1800's.

My cousin decided to clear up the matter, and sent a check for 2 cents to the local Catholic diocese, along with a letter of explaining that he would really like to see this matter taken care of. They sent back the check and letter, with no explanation. So my cousin has sent it in now to the regional Archdiocese.

We'll see if the check goes through..
