DeeAnna Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I think the terminology of that posting was soooo unChristian. "They got away with a belly full of food"...... I think it was so nice of that mother to pack the food packs for the children and for them to be included in the pot luck. It's not our job to judge or straighten people out. Isn't that God's job ? How many of us are getting away with a belly full of God's offerings and not giving back or doing what we should ? You may never know what the long term effect of one kind deed is: such a giving some food to someone, but the important thing is that you had the giving spirit to give. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 6, 2010 Members Posted August 6, 2010 I think the terminology of that posting was soooo unChristian."They got away with a belly full of food"...... In defense of Bravus, he was only repeating what *I* had written. So, if you feel that I'm unchristian to use that terminology (which was, in fact, correct terminology), that's okay with me. Moderators Bravus Posted August 6, 2010 Author Moderators Posted August 6, 2010 Can we perhaps also let it not getting into an 'undeserving poor' loop? Been there a million times on this site. The motivation of my original post is just this: I have certain values of truth, justice, mercy and so on. While I believe it's philosophically possible to arrive at those values through reason, I learned my values at the feet of Christ. And yet I find those values being continuously outraged against by Christians. When I say something about it - which I usually do in defense of the victims - I'm seen as attacking Christianity, and being an enemy of Christianity. I'm not. Christian - the following of Jesus Christ's teachings - does not consist in the things I listed. In fact it does not *exist* in the things I listed. Christians who offend against the actual teachings of Christ, in his name, have a lot more to be worried about than me. There's a judgement coming, and it's a whole lot more just than my ideas and experiences. It's also a whole lot more final. Quote Truth is important

Moderators Bravus Posted August 7, 2010 Author Moderators Posted August 7, 2010 Bit of an unintended mathematical side-track! My wife enjoys Sudoku, though she uses it to get herself to sleep (stops her thinking about anything else). I'm not a fan of it. This maths course I'm doing is preparatory to study some more physics, which is partly to keep me out of mischief but will also be useful in my work (and just plain fun!) Anyway, back on topic: I didn't mean to slap you down, jasd - liked and enjoyed your contribution as always - it was just a jocular response to let you know I raise these issues for reasons other than boredom. I think you know that gentlemanliness is not sexism, for example, and are being provocative more than serious. Similarly, one can be discerning about others without being prejudiced... in fact prejudice is a lack of discernment. And so on. Quote Truth is important

Good comeback. You got another level of funnin’ from me – and I knowed you weren’t slappin’ me down – just a knuckle samwich upside the haid... Okay, bein’ silly here – just gets easier and easier the older I gets (sorta compensatin' - alla its own). >>I think you know that gentlemanliness is not sexism, for example, and are being provocative more than serious.
