GreatLakesGramma Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Thanks to this forum, I was able to actually converse with my granddaughter about her favorite singers. If not for the discussions here, I wouldn't have had a clue who they were. Although it doesn't exactly thrill me that her favorite singer is Lady Gaga (though she doesn't like her "weird costumes," thankfully), having read enough disparaging comments here about this particular singer to have my curiosity aroused, I had already looked her up online and found out quite a bit about her, more things than my granddaughter knew, in fact. So I was actually able to add to the discussion. And had it not been for a thread about a certain rapper's interruption of an awards ceremony, I would also have been clueless about granddaughter's second favorite, Taylor Swift. As it was, I also was able to tell granddaughter a few things about Ms Swift that she didn't know. And that led the conversation to Beyonce, who I then found out granddaughter also likes. So I wish to express my appreciation for my fellow forum members, who have made a positive contribution toward my standing with my granddaughter. At least so far, I have not yet said or done anything to make her see me as an out of touch old lady. Old, yes, since when I turned 50, she was still young enough not to be able to count that high, and seemed totally awed that anyone could be THAT old. But not out of touch. My son, who recently spent some time with his out of state sister and nieces, said she is getting to "that age" of almost-teen "attitude." But she hasn't lost her desire to talk to and see her grandma. When son was leaving to return home she told him, "next time you come, you ARE bringing Grandma!" OTOH, it's almost scary observing the little kids driving 18 wheelers on the freeways, not to mention in positions of government determining where our country is going next, not that the older generations did such a bang-up job.
