Doug Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Well it finally happened. I found somewhere I feel I want to belong to and it isn't at my home church. I have been a member there for most of my life but I found that I no longer have too much in common with people here. Mostly because there isn't much of a young adult group. We had an excellent young pastor who basically quadrupled the young adult membership but they ended not hiring him because of some previous misdeeds that happened a long time ago. Now nobody comes in the morning. I say 2 different churches because I know it will make a lot of people upset if I transfer my membership officially to another church. Quote

Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 8, 2010 Moderators Posted August 8, 2010 Doug, it happens. It is not supposed to. Do what is best for you spirituality. Transfer your membership if that is best for you. Go where you are being fed spiritually. Let the chips fall as they may. If people want to know why you transfered, you can find some way of putting it that will not be offensive. Quote Gregory
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 8, 2010 Members Posted August 8, 2010 What are the benefits of being a member of a church anyhow? The only thing I can think of is that you can be on a Nominating Committee. Non-members can be asked to serve in various capacities in a church. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I wish they would just drop the entire idea and let us all be equal and not exposed to constant judgment by our fellow Christians. just my 2 cents But thanks for askin' Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Dr. Shane Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I think we do need to be where we are spiritually fed. My wife and I attend two churches because she is more spiritually fed with a Spanish sermon so every other Sabbath we attend church in Mexico. However our membership is with an academy church here in Texas. When we moved to Texas, I transferred my membership here from Minnesota. It was received and approved. A few years later I got a letter from a new pastor at my old church in Minnesota asking if I wanted to transfer my membership, leave it on their books or have it removed from the books. I responded by informing him it has already been transferred, or should have been. So, as it turns out, I was an official member of two churches for three or four years. One of the big benefits of membership for me is accountability. I am inclined to compromise my spiritual principles and justify that in my own mind. My church family helps me stay accountable. That is not something I can get if I go at it alone. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
nuff sed Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Shane: You were a member of two different church because of shoddy bookkeeping. Cheer up... after having been a mission president in South America and returning to the U.S. I had to be taken in on 'profession of faith' because nobody could find my membership. ( I am a 4th generation Adventist ) 'nuff sed Quote
