Moderators lazarus Posted August 16, 2010 Moderators Posted August 16, 2010 Yesterday, someone complained about a photo on the church's notice board. It was a picture of a recent Choir picnic where our music director was holding up a tray of chicken. It was about 6x4 in size, the picture not the tray. The picnic was being held at a local park. There were many other pictures on the notice board from the picnic. "As Adventists we should be see to be upholding the health message, this is not traditional Adventism", the complainer said. What should the Pastor do (after he has prayed). 1. Ignore the complaint. 2. Laugh. 3. Preach a sermon about the health message 4. Get stressed. 5. Resign. 6. Call the offender into his office. 7. Secretly/publicly take the picture down. 8. Secretly Photoshop the picture and replace it. 9. Call the complainer into his office 10. Go visit a sick person. 11. Play a computer game with his kids. 12. Remind himself of what EGW says about eating meat. 13. Disband the choir. 14. Ask if there is any chicken left. 15. Develop a policy for posting items on the board. 16. Find the old policy for posting items on the board. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Liz Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Tell the complainer that it was chicken not pork, so that person was upholding to the health message as far as that person was lead. That we do indeed have a health message but we are not called to be the food police. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Please, support the March of Dimes.
LifeHiscost Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Tell the complainer that it was chicken not pork, so that person was upholding to the health message as far as that person was lead. That we do indeed have a health message but we are not called to be the food police. Blessings! And tell the complainer to get a life!!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 16, 2010 Administrators Posted August 16, 2010 Give the complainer the assignment of seeking out all the chicken eaters of the congregation, inviting them home, fixing a vegetarian lunch for them and eating it with them without one word spoken about the health message. And as a follow-up for the complainer, if they get a reciprocal invitation to eat with one of those chicken eaters, accept it graciously and eat whatever is put before them, again without a word spoken about the health message. Tell the complainer that you will entertain the complaint and respond once the assignment is completed and you recieve a full report. I strongly suspect that the chicken eaters will eat vegetarian without complaining and will likely fix a vegetarian lunch for the vegetarian even without a word spoken about it. If not, oh well... The fellowship will have been more beneficial and lasting than the chicken which goes in the mouth today and goes out the other end tomorrow, as Jesus quite bluntly put it. (Matthew 15:17) Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
LifeHiscost Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 LIZ AND TOM both good advice dgrimm60 In theory. Do you think it will ever be practiced? Advice is cheap. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Outta Here Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Ask the complainer for some photos of him/herself in which they are upholding the health message--then you can add them to the board. That way people can see a diversity in membership. Also, in large letters, captioning the bulletin board, write: NOT YOUR TRADITIONAL ADVENTISM Quote
Administrators Gail Posted August 16, 2010 Administrators Posted August 16, 2010 Good one, Aubrey! tu When I read this, I was reminded of the place where Jesus said that it wasn't what goes INTO the mouth that defiles, but what comes out of it, as that comes from the heart. Matt.15:17-20 (What Tom was referring to, too) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted August 16, 2010 Members Posted August 16, 2010 That's unreal Lazarus, but maybe the pastor should resign! LOL Just kidding, LOL This is a problem, but maybe you should ask this complainer what they drink, also I wonder what there sugar intake is. So many complain about those of us that eat according to the Bible principle's of clean meat, but yet they eat all sorts of other unhealthy food. Good luck with your problem, not that it should be one. And I'd visit a sick person. :) Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Quote: Go visit a sick person I like this suggestion. And I think you know which 'sick' person I am talking about. He does need some visting and educating. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted August 16, 2010 Members Posted August 16, 2010 I like this suggestion. And I think you know which 'sick' person I am talking about. He does need some visting and educating. LOL Woody, this was one of Lazarus' choice's, and yes I think the complainer is the one he needs to visit! I'm guessing this is who you meant? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 One more suggestion: Divide the board into sections of chicken eaters and Non-Chicken eaters. You can then have a contest to determine if chicken eaters have better Bulletin Boards than non-Chicken eaters. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. SivartM Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I think that those who eat chicken should sit on one side of the church, and those who never eat anything remotely unhealthy should sit on the other side. Amelia Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Quote: 8. Secretly Photoshop the picture and replace it. Replace the chicken with the complainer. The pastor would then be upholding the health message. jasd Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 QR frame: Hmmm, given the responses above - mebbe, one fine Saturday afternoon sometime future - I may actually run across a plate of fried chicken at the church potluck. Umm, Umm, Umm. Then again, rotsa ruck, jasd! Seriously, a photo of a plateful of soy-based TVP might have, instead, been posted on the board - as representative of GM soya beans (almost the entirety of modern soya bean yield). Some of the recombinant compositions are - umm, interesting... It's a cruel, complicated, and perplexing world! Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 First 5. Resign. And then 14. Ask if there is any chicken left. Quote

Moderators lazarus Posted August 18, 2010 Author Moderators Posted August 18, 2010 OK. Thanks for the suggestions. Here you will get a glimpse of my finely tuned 21st century leadership skills. This is what I actually did. The person actually complained to my wife. She relayed the conversation to me. Here are my responses as she tells the story... My first response was to laugh. I then got irritated. Then I said "whatever" to myself. I then felt frustrated. I had a fleeting thought that this could become a major issue. Chickengate! I relaxed and thought about the cookie dough ice cream in the fridge. My wife then tells me that the person declared "you sound just like your husband". I smile. I relaxed into the couch satisfied that I have trained my wife well but worried that next time it might be bacon! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Woody Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 You and your wife are a wise team. And yes .... we DO need to train our wives well. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators lazarus Posted August 18, 2010 Author Moderators Posted August 18, 2010 On a serious note. I have a feeling that the Adventist Taliban are resurgent across the United States. Anyone notice that? Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Administrators Gail Posted August 18, 2010 Administrators Posted August 18, 2010 Hmm... I haven't heard it put quite that way before, but I hear ya. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
