CGMedley Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Andy Nash takes a hard look at the Sabbath. Read his reflections in this week's Adventist Review. http://www.adventistreview.org/issue.php?issue=2010-1528&page=19 Quote
12tribes Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Colossians 2 is a favourite verse for those who do not keep the sabbath, to show that they do not have to keep it, but as we know and as this article points out it has nothing to do with the weekly sabbath Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Members phkrause Posted August 22, 2011 Members Posted August 22, 2011 Great article. And like I've mentioned on numerous occasions, why do people just pick one of the 10 Commandments and always the 4th. Why not the 6th or one of the others? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
BobRyan Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 From the article "Andy Nash is a journalism professor and lay pastor. " I knew Andy when he attended New Hope in Maryland. I like him. Having said that - he missed a few queues in Col 2. 1. Col 2 states that it is speaking of shaddows. "Have no other God's before Me" is not a "Shaddow". Nor is "Honor your father and mother".. nor is "Remembeer the Sabbath day to keep it Holy". 2. Col 2 is not doing away with either ceremonial laws or moral laws. It is doing away with judging others. Just as Christ was doing pre-cross in Matt 7. "Judge not that you be not judged". 3. Col 2 specifically condemns inventions of man - man made religion, man made tradition. To lump the Word of God in with man-made tradition as the thing that is being set aside in Col 2 -- is to make a mistake. Nash spends almost no time at all "in the chapter" when making is statement about the chapter. Let's look at it. Quote: 18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 ""Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!'' 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use) in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence. 4. The Shaddow Sabbaths of Lev 23 are the annual Sabbaths that were "given" at from their very first instance - in the form of animal sacrifice pointing forward to the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the World. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
