GreatLakesGramma Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 There was a little bit of excitement around here this morning. As he was heading out to work, my husband saw a horse trot by on the side road that runs beside our house. The horse turned at the intersection to go down the highway toward the corner store a mile down the road from us, that the Amish in the area use. They go around that corner all the time. I called 991, and the dispatcher told me they'd received several calls, and someone had been sent. As husband drove by, he called to tell me that the horse was running up and down the road in front of the gas station 3/4 mile from here, with the police trying to catch it. Son just drove off in the same direction, and called to tell me that they had just caught the horse, which was being taken home by its owner, with the police following in their car. I don't know if the Amish man son saw taking the horse was actually the owner. The police could have gone to the nearest Amish farm, and the resident came to take the horse to its proper owner. But I'm glad the police were able to take care of this. You can't exactly phone the Amish family 3 miles down the road to tell them their horse just trotted past your house heading for the store, like neighbors used to call my family to tell us our cows were out when they saw them headed down the road.
