Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted September 6, 2010 Members Posted September 6, 2010 I've always wondered how other people say "Adventist"... Most of my non-SDA friends and relatives will pronounce it adVENtist. I always grew up hearing it pronounced ADventist. Is it a cultural thing, where one lives? Or what? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
SivartM Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I pronounce it like you, but I've heard a lot of Adventists say adVENtist. The correct pronunciationis ADventist, though. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 6, 2010 Administrators Posted September 6, 2010 It's like a secret handshake... If you pronounce it right, we know you are really one of us. I won't say which is correct, since that would give away part of the secret Adventist code... Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. nuff sed Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 We do have our own cultural vocabulary as well....I won't start with the list as it has been done here several times before. I wonder whether anyone has actually published one. I don't suppose that you would be able to "break even" doing so. It is generally a known fact that you cannot "make a living" with Adventists being your only market. nuff sed... Quote

Overaged Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 That's a bit funny Tom, but just a bit. It reminds me of how it is in some circles, where they say Adventist like this: "Quick; hide the coffee, here they come..." It would be nice if all Adventists were known for knowing Jesus, and then how people say our name would not be so important... NOTE: I am not promoting coffee or knocking rudywoofs in any way. Just making a point that this topic reminded me of...there is a lot in a name; and sometimes we should pay more attention to it, and say it like it is supposed to be said.
