Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted September 24, 2010 Members Posted September 24, 2010 Let's say the average distance to work is 15 miles and your average speed is 60 mph. If you are late one day and think you can make up time by speeding at 70 mph, how much time will you save? Moderators Nan Posted September 24, 2010 Moderators Posted September 24, 2010 Depends for how much of the distance you speed . Less than 3 minutes if you speed the whole way, and that will be eaten up after you have explained your actions to the traffic policeman. Quote
Guest Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 If 60 mph is a mile a minute, then how far will you go in a minute at 70 mph? Do the math. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted September 24, 2010 Moderators Posted September 24, 2010 As a pure maths question we'd assume a long straight road for the commute. In that case the answer is that at 60 mph it takes 15 min to make the 15 mile commute, whereas at 70 it takes about 12.9 minutes, so you save only 2 minutes even in this best-case scenario. As Nan and dgrimm have pointed out, in the real world there is likely to be cops, traffic, traffic lights and other impediments that over all would reduce the advantage. Add to that the disadvantages of fines as well as the significantly increased (36%) danger of injury to oneself and others... Quote Truth is important
Guest Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 You have to know how to spot the cops before they spot you. It is truly an art form. (not for everybody) Quote

Members phkrause Posted September 25, 2010 Members Posted September 25, 2010 *** Bravus is correct! You'd save only 2 minutes! Ah and than the question becomes, "was it worth it?" Probably to some it was and others it was not. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Nan Posted September 25, 2010 Moderators Posted September 25, 2010 Not really related but we saw a great number plate (licence plate for you Top Bunkers) PIG 000 the other day. Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted September 25, 2010 Moderators Posted September 25, 2010 Is it worth it? Well, it depends. Two minutes could mean the difference between making or missing your flight. A fraction of a second could mean first or second place in a race. Two minutes could be the difference between a live or brain dead patient. Quote
