Moderators Gerr Posted October 6, 2010 Moderators Posted October 6, 2010 Of course, there are enough gods for everyone to share. Marduk for the Babylonians. Ra for the Egyptions. Baal for the Canaanites. Zeus & co. for the Greeks. Janus for the Romans. Dagon for the Philistines. Molech for the Ammonites. Hollywood for many Americans. Money for Wall St. Power for many politicians. Evolution for most scientists. Etc. etc. Quote

BSW Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I always thought we are to be reconciled to God, not God reconciled to us. It is the work of conversion and sanctification to reconcile men to God by bringing them into accord with the principles of His law. In the beginning, man was created in the image of God. He was in perfect harmony with the nature and the law of God; the principles of righteousness were written upon his heart. But sin alienated him from his Maker. He no longer reflected the divine image. His heart was at war with the principles of God's law. "The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be" (Rom. 8:7). But "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son," that man might be reconciled to God. Through the merits of Christ he can be restored to harmony with his Maker. His heart must be renewed by divine grace; he must have a new life from above. This change is the new birth, without which, says Jesus, "he cannot see the kingdom of God." {NL 11.3} Quote
Woody Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hey ... that sounds like something Sky would say. Merits? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
BSW Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Quote: Merits? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Rom. 4:3-5). Righteousness is obedience to the law. The law demands righteousness, and this the sinner owes to the law; but he is incapable of rendering it. The only way in which he can attain to righteousness is through faith. By faith he can bring to God the merits of Christ, and the Lord places the obedience of His Son to the sinner's account.Christ's righteousness is accepted in place of man's failure, and God receives, pardons, justifies, the repentant, believing soul, treats him as though he were righteous, and loves him as He loves His Son. This is how faith is accounted righteousness; and the pardoned soul goes on from grace to grace, from light to a greater light. {AG 265.3} The touch of faith opens to us the divine treasure house of power and wisdom; and thus, through instruments of clay, God accomplishes the wonders of His grace. This living faith is our great need today. We must know that Jesus is indeed ours; that His Spirit is purifying and refining our hearts. If the followers of Christ had genuine faith, with meekness and love, what a work they might accomplish! What fruit would be seen to the glory of God! {AG 265.4} She pens it so much better than I ever could. Quote

That is correct Woody, but Gerry makes a good point though. Its kinda like when many of the worlds different religions got together to iron out there difference's, saying we all pretty much believe the same thing lets get rid of them, and than we can have one church instead of 1000s. Moderators Bravus Posted October 7, 2010 Moderators Posted October 7, 2010 God is infinite. No need to cut him up into small parcels and horde, because there's always more. We can claim that our *understanding* of God is more correct than another's, and we can keep striving to understand more (believing we already understand everything is death), but (and I know I'm sounding like a broken record) humility is the only possible response to an infinite God. Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Yes CoA. We are divided into those that have all the truth or claim to ... and those that just know Jesus and are seeking truth. I'm with the latter. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
