Who or what spirits??????????????

POLITICOMichelle Obama: Keep the prayers (and votes)

Michelle Obama: Keep the prayers (and votes) coming

Michelle Obama tells radio host Tom Joyner that she's thankful for people's prayers.

By GLENN THRUSH

First Lady Michelle Obama made a rare religious reference on behalf of her husband's presidency, telling an African-American radio host that she's grateful for people's prayers and for their help in keeping “the spirits clean around us."

Obama, on the first day of a two-week campaign swing on behalf of endangered Democratic candidates, told syndicated radio host Tom Joyner that voters who swept President Barack Obama into office in 2008 need to support him by going back to the polls in three weeks to prove his election wasn't the high-water mark of a Democratic resurgence.

Then the first lady, a lifelong churchgoer, made the kind of subtle but explicitly religious appeal that was so common in the Bush years, but has been uncommon during the 21 months she and her husband have been in the White House.

"We put this man in office; we're all proud of Barack and his accomplishments," she told Joyner, whose show is popular among black voters. "Everybody I know in our communities are praying for us. Every day we feel that and let me just tell your listeners it means the world to us to know that there are prayer circles and people who want to keep the spirits clean around us."

I heard Limbaugh obsessing about this today. It is pretty bad when we have to attack people for their prayers. Rush must be getting desperate for material. He should call up John Stewart for some material.

Does your Bible tell you there is a possibility of the spirits becoming dirty? What spirits was she talking about?

I've never heard a Christian pray that the spirits would be kept clean...

Posted

Certainly there are more important things he could be talking about. He really needs to call John Stewart or even Bill O'Reilly.

Not to point out the obvious but I don't think Rush needs your advice on how to run his show. It appears he is doing very well without your advice. If you cared so much about the rightness of what Rush said, why would you listen to him so much?

Just for the record AGAIN,you were listening but I wasn't.

The religious beliefs of the Obama's would not be that important to people if they didn't make it so. There is no law that says a president has to have any religious belief, but their behavior captures peoples attention. How many thought they were muslim?? Obama has said some pretty startling statements as he is adament that he is a christian. Why not just drop the subject? If he doesn't go to church so what?

It is when God becomes a convenient marketing tool that it is scrutinized.

What spirits need to be kept clean? As he claims he is christian in the same interview explains "Christ was a important historical figure"Excuse me,but for a man that proclaimed his belief in Christ to say he was a important historical figure is a little odd.Christ had better be more than a historical figure or we are all in big trouble. How does collective salvation work? Maybe you can do a better job of explaining it than he did. Have a news flash for Obama,he has nothing to do with my salvation. Now Michelle Obama brings God out to boost votes for Obama. A little unnerving if she truly is praying for clean spirits

I suggested he contact John Stewart or Bill O'Reilly, not me.

You suggested that Rush should do his show differently.Seems he is doing well without following your suggestions

It appears he is doing very well without your advice.

Quote:
It appears that he uses the Drudge Report for show prep.

Last I heard him he used many sources for show prep.Is there some harm to that?

Quote:
I try to stay informed by getting my news from a variety of sources.

Good idea when you have some faith in what is being said. Not so great an idea if you mock, ridicule and condemn most everything that is said.Waste of time

Quote:
Michelle was asking for people to pray for the President. She asked that we pray that clean spirits, or pure spirits will surround her husband. That sounds like a very wise and Christian prayer. I would like it if people would pray that I be surrounded by many godly angels that chase Satan's angels away. Rush's obsessions show how little he knows. I wonder how much time he spends in church and Bible study each week.

Praying for Godly angels is a bit different than praying to keep evil spirits away.

I am not sure what you call a obsession.I have no idea if he goes to church.I have heard him several times express his belief in God and why.Doesn't seem to off the mark.He knows that Christ is his "personal saviour" not just a important historical person. He sees as offensive to God the idea of collective salvation that Obama believes in.Rush doesn't trot out God to be used as a marketing tool

I know Obama's rarely go since they threw Rev Wright under the bus. After 20 years it finally filtered thru that Rev Wright was not someone to be using as a spiritual mentor.I don't care if Obama and family go or if Rush goes.

I don't recall Rush using God,maybe he did and I didn't hear it, for ratings as it looks very much like Obama is using it for votes.

PS. If you listen to what Michelle actually said,it is pretty plain who she considers the clean spirits and who is the unclean spirits.

Rush Limbaugh is a Lutheran and belongs to the ELCA. I don't know how often he attends church. He obviously missed the episode of the Flintstones where Fred had a bad angel on one shoulder and a good angel on the other. He will stop at nothing to criticize our honorable, loving, compassionate, tender, merciful, kind, generous and God-fearing President. Now he even attacks the man's wife's prayer requests. I bet if he could only find out the brand of toilet paper the first family uses, he would criticize that too.

Rush's criticism of the first family tells me more about Rush than it tells me about the Obamas.

No,I don't think so.I believe he was raised Methodist so would have no reason to belong to the ELCA

I think that is one you should recommend to the Obama's.

Everytime someone starts gushing about someone they do not know a essay I read comes to mind.

Have you ever read Plutarch's essay on the flatterer? The flatterer ingratiates himself by means of feigned ...perverts their natural self-love to make us believe what is not true . He is, in short, the enemy of truth. As Phocion said "I cannot be your friend and your flatterer."

My dad explained it a little more clearly when we were kids.

When the flattery begins, check your back pocket and make sure your wallet is still there, then check and see what has happened to your reputation, chances are one or both are gone

Quote:

It was a strange request.Stranger yet is the suddenly calling out the big gun to make sure we get more of the same come election time. I couldn't care less what religion or if any religion is important in their life. It is always sickening to me when suddenly God becomes so very important to some. After the election it will be interesting to see how prominent God is in their speech and lives.

Of course Rush cares what his listeners think. He thanks us all the time and says that we are the reason for his success. I have been listening to him since 1991.

Perhaps he is a Methodist. I heard he was an ELCA Lutheran when I was in college and he was being criticized for his belief in evolution. Whatever he is, he is certainly liberal when it comes to his theology. He obviously hasn't heard about the devil's angels.

I certainly would like everyone to pray for me. Please pray that no dark angels surround me and that God sends His righteous angels to protect me and keep me from falling.

Not enough to tailor what he thinks or says.

He doesn't believe in evolution if he did at one time he has changed. He has spoken several times about God's creation etc.

From the comments made concerning Michelle Obama by others, his objection may have come from it being quite clear she was asking for God to protect him from the republican victory that seems sure to come. There were quite a few that didn't appreciate her sudden calling on God to protect Obama from evil spirits(republicans)

The reason Rush beats up on Obama so much is because it gets him ratings. His message is very tailored to his audience.

Quote:
He doesn't believe in evolution

He believes in theistic evolution which is one of the reasons why he is so wrong on environmental issues.

That is downright silly. He had the number one rating long before Obama came down the path

Quote:

You didn't know what religion the man is so I think I will reserve judgment as to his evolutionary beliefs. He is usually spot on with the enviroumet.Had do laugh at the experts on the gulf oil spill. The long, long time it would take to clean things up.From day one along with saying it was a terrible disaster

Rush said as bad as it was the ocean and surrounding area's would clean themselves.

Whether or not Rush believes in theistic evolution I have no idea and don't really care.Nor do I think the Obama's are even close in a mainstream religious belief.Nor do I care what if any chruch the Obama's attend

Collective salvation and Christ as only a historically well known figure is a belief I don't recognize. If Christ is not the saviour, Son of God,He has no more to offer than Hitler.Hitler was a important figure historically well known. So I wonder where the wor "christian applies"

Nor do either you or I know how God fearing Obama is

I have seen tracking polls that showed Rush's ratings based on the topics he discusses. He gets his highest ratings when he criticizes Democrats and his lowest ratings when he defends Republicans. It is not hard to understand why he criticizes Democrats so much. It gets him his highest ratings.

I agree its all about the ratings for him or those that are for the other side, just looking for ratings.

I am quite sure he is conscious of ratings. He did not get those ratings for any other reason than he was good at what he did/does.

If that were so KethOlberman would be right up there with Rush and he is barely a blip on the radar screen

I agree, I do think Rush is good at what he does. But he's been around a long time and Keith has not. Personally I'm not a Keith Olberman fan. But he's more than a blip on the screen.

It is all about ratings. What these guys are selling is advertising spots. The higher their ratings, the more they can charge for advertising. That is how every private media operation works.

So Shane are you saying that they don't even believe in there own politics? I understand that they need ratings but you have to believe that more important than ratings would be what they believe in! or no!

Politics is very broad. What I am saying is that they choose what to talk about based on their ratings. Rush could spend his time talking about how great various Republican candidates are. He could spend his time defending attacks on various Republican politicians. Or he could go on the attack after Obama, his wife, their dog, their car, the deodorant they use, the church he goes to (or doesn't go to), how many plys his toilet paper has, how much fiber is in his diet, what Michele says when Barry passes gas, the kind of cigarettes he smokes, and on and on. Rush gets his best ratings when he obsesses about Obama. So that is what he does.
