Woody Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Do you feel it's a good idea to discuss our theological differences on Facebook when all of our non-SDAs friends and family will read it? What about the use of Ellen White? Should we not mention or quote her so as to offend our non-SDA friends? I read that Alex has divided his Facebook friends between SDAs and Non-SDAs. Is that a good solution? Any ideas? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members abelisle Posted October 20, 2010 Members Posted October 20, 2010 And they still get to read everything else but the non-SDA's don't see what's in my closed SDA group. Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Woody Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 Alex. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not criticizing your approach. It may be the best way. I was just wanting to get a discussion going on it. As I have often had the same question and thoughts concerning my Facebook friends. I cringe at some of my SDA friends comments. Sure I could delete them. But by that time ... many have seen it. And do I really WANT to moderate that heavily? I am just trying to figure out what is best and for what reason. I just may actually do as you have done. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted October 20, 2010 Moderators Posted October 20, 2010 IMHO, SDAs discussing their differences especially when it becomes heated, is not good for all the world the see, thus giving them a negative impression. Quote

I think you are right. But also ... what about when friends start to push the Sabbath and the Mark of the Beast and the Anti-Christ. I have Catholic relatives and friends. Why would someone put that kind of stuff out there on my Facebook page. Even truth can be hurtful if not presented in the right timing and manner. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Members abelisle Posted October 20, 2010 Members Posted October 20, 2010 Hi Woody, No sweat -I didn't take it as criticism. I just wonder if FB still makes a comment like, "Alex has posted the following on his SDA group page: . . . . "????? since I can't see what my friends' FB pages look like. But the way some of us talk to and about each other is surely a turn-off for the non-SDA public who might be lurking here. Matter of fact, the Review just recently wrote in an editorial column about some Christians from a mainline Protestant group who were thinking about becoming Adventists but changed their mind after reading comments that some Adventists were making on the internet about fellow Adventists. They said "how can we be a member of a religious organization where the members treat each other so harshly?" Who knows? Maybe that internet site was CA? Woody Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 Yes Alex. I agree. And I would not be surprised if it was here. It's fine to have a strong opinion. But it's just that ... an opinion. Some prefer to call it "truth" or "belief". But it is still opinion. And we need to be more careful about showing respect for each person and their belief/opinion. Amelia Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Woody, If my non SDA friends on FB don't like something they are free to block or remove me. I'm not too worried because my FB page is only open to my friends and no one else. The whole world does not see my musings. GreatLakesGramma Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 My Adventist friends and I don't discuss theological differences on Facebook. In fact, we don't really discuss them at all, especially not in a heated manner. Woody, if any friends of mine started pushing the sort of topics you've mentioned, I'd block them from posting on my wall, and there'd be no second chances. I have friends and relatives that are Christians of other denominations, and I will never allow anyone to bash their faith on MY page. I also would not allow heated arguments about anything on my wall. Anybody who did anything like that would get blocked too, and probably unfriended besides. And that is pretty much the reason why I also don't recommend this site to my friends, Adventist or not. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. GreatLakesGramma Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Amelia, all of my Facebook content is friends only also. I am not on Facebook to talk to the world, only to keep in touch with people I care about personally. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
