Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted October 31, 2010 Members Posted October 31, 2010 A normal year has 365 days or 52 weeks. 52 x 7 = 364. Where did the extra day go? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted October 31, 2010 Members Posted October 31, 2010 I thought that a normal year has 364.25 days in a year? That's why we have a leap year every 4 years. No? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted October 31, 2010 Moderators Posted October 31, 2010 365.25 (roughly, with a few further tweaks required on the century years) if I recall correctly. The trick is that it's not a neat and tidy 52 weeks. Taking 2010 (not a leap year) as an example, January 1 was a Friday and December 31 will be also be a Friday. (If they were neat whole weeks it would be a Thursday because the Friday would form the first day of the next whole week.) So, more tidily, we should think of the year as '52 weeks and a day', which adds up to 365... Nice misdirection in the statement of the problem, though... and I hope I'm not spoilsporting it by solving it so soon... Quote Truth is important
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted October 31, 2010 Author Members Posted October 31, 2010 Then 24 hrs x 364.25 = 8742 hrs x 3 yrs = 26226 hrs + (365 x 24)[8760 leap yr hrs] = 34986 hrs every 4 years 34986/4 = 8746.5 hrs per year / 24 hrs per day = 364.4375 days per year average Nope, 364.25 hrs per day doesn't add up right. Maybe Bravus can help us out. (Maybe I did the math wrong!) Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Members phkrause Posted October 31, 2010 Members Posted October 31, 2010 Sorry rudywoofs, even though I typed 364 I did mean 365. My bad. :) Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
