Moderators John317 Posted October 31, 2010 Moderators Posted October 31, 2010 No. He would like to but people don't let Him, and He honors our decisions. Jesus treated Peter, James, and John differently than he did the rest of the disciples. The Pharisees wouldn't let him treat them the way He wanted to. In a way, then, God is like a parent who has two children, one who responds lovingly and the other who may even hate the parent and resists everything the parent does or says. This keeps the parent from treating them the same. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Liz Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 My take on it is just a little bit different. I say "no" too, but I see it as a blessing. If HE treated us all the same, then our individuality would be lost. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 31, 2010 Administrators Posted October 31, 2010 Maybe it's not God that is treating people differently. According to Jesus, God's sun shines on both the evil and the good and He sends rain for the righteous and the unrighteous alike. And Jesus' conclusion on that was that we should do likewise... It seems likewise clear that bad things happen to good people and bad people in relatively equal measure. Our perception of the differences might just be the result of other forces, events, choices, actions that are not God's doing. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
mrsducky Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 My sister in law says that she is God's favorite! I think we are all His favorites. I think God treats each of us the same. He loves each one of us as though there weren't another being in the universe. And he does everything possible to save us. Our level of acceptance or resistance is where the difference lies. Quote

Moderators John317 Posted November 6, 2010 Moderators Posted November 6, 2010 I take "treat" to be not his love but his behavior, and if we are asking if the father's behavior was the same toward each son, it seems clear to me that the answer has to be no. But that was not because the father loved one son more than another. It was because each son had a different kind of relationship with the father. Each son responded differently to the father. I think this is similar to God's relationship to us. Some people don't want God in their lives and God doesn't force Himself on people. Others are thirsty for God and therefore God is able to respond to them in ways other people don't allow for and wouldn't appreciate or want. Again, Jesus showed this in his treatment of people. He didn't treat everyone the same although he loved everyone. I think the way Mary and Martha responded to him is a good example of this. Their response to Jesus was different and therefore Jesus treatment of them was not exactly the same. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
