Stumbling Blocks & Victory

Of course there are many issues we struggle with but these are some of the most common. Many of these are not in and of themselves morally wrong but often consume time we should be spending with our families, studying the Bible or doing better activities that would benefit us or others.

It took about a year for me to wean myself off from secular sit-coms and transition to Christian and/or educational television but I have really felt the positive impact in my life. I also feel closer in my relationship with God when I listen to more CCM and less secular music. We have a good local CCM station in this area that I really enjoy. JCTV also comes in on the Hope/3ABN dish and they often times have CCM videos that I enjoy.

Seems video games has gotten the most votes so far. I have such an addictive personality that I never bought an X-Box of Play Station, fearing that it would dominate my life. When I first got on Facebook I played FarmTown and Farmville a lot but soon noticed the hours it was taking away from my life. I heard a local radio talk show host saying he was giving up Facebook games because he wanted his life back. So I quit playing them and it was rather easy to stop. If I get sent overseas and end up with time to kill I may start playing them again but as long as I have better things to do, I have better things to do.

You remind of when I got Pacman many years ago. Many a night, I would play it until 2 a.m.

Actually, I started the thread before I heard the sermon. I was obsessed with video games when I was a pre-teen. Then I started drinking and drugs when I was 13 and video games kind of fell by the way side. I never really got into video games after I sobered up (age 16).

Television and secular music have been my principle stumbling blocks. These things take my mind off from spiritual things. There are so many other things that I can do that are productive and enjoyable.
