Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 16, 2010 Members Posted November 16, 2010 This is a brochure from Loma Linda University's, School of Public Health, Pediatric Wholistic Medicine Clinic. I just received a copy of it. In case the print is too small to read, here are the treatment methodologies which are being used: Acupuncture Breathing and relaxation techniques Chiropractic treatments Herbs Homeopathy Massage Mind Body Therapies Supplements Osteopathic Treatements. Anyone else out there who hears an alarm ringing??? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 16, 2010 Author Members Posted November 16, 2010 I'll lay you 10-1 odds that within 6 months this center will be disassociated from Loma Linda University, or that its methodologies will be changed. Moderators John317 Posted November 16, 2010 Moderators Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks for posting this. I'm going to go to the Loma Linda MC and check it out. I need to go to the VA hospital almost next door to it anyway. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease. The acupuncturist can correct imbalances of flow at identifiable points close to the skin.Acupuncture focuses on a holistic, energy-based approach to the patient rather than a disease-oriented diagnostic and treatment model. Despite considerable efforts to understand the anatomy and physiology of the "acupuncture points," the definition and characterization of these points remains controversial. Even more elusive is the scientific basis of some of the key traditional Eastern medical concepts such as the circulation of Qi, the meridian system, and the five phases theory, which are difficult to reconcile with contemporary biomedical information but continue to play an important role in the evaluation of patients and the formulation of treatment in acupuncture. http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/acu.html Quote: The National Council Against Health Fraud has concluded: Acupuncture is an unproven modality of treatment; Its theory and practice are based on primitive and fanciful concepts of health and disease that bear no relationship to present scientific knowledge; Research during the past twenty years has failed to demonstrate that acupuncture is effective against any disease; Perceived effects of acupuncture are probably due to a combination of expectation, suggestion, counter- irritation, operant conditioning, and other psychological mechanisms; The use of acupuncture should be restricted to appropriate research settings; Insurance companies should not be required by law to cover acupuncture treatment; and Licensure of lay acupuncturists should be phased out. http://www.ncahf.org/pp/acu.html Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Liz Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I don't have anything against anything on the list. I am of the mindset that if it works for you and makes you feel better/heals you go for it. I am wondering what "mind-body therapies" might be though. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? aldona Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 We must be living in an alternate universe here in Australia. 3 of the 10 or so doctors who work at our clinic are trained in acupuncture. (not me - I'm busy enough without taking on extra postgrad diplomas etc.) At one of our recent monthly doc meetings, we had "journal club" as usual and they all brought the latest research articles, and we all had a good discussion about the autonomic nervous system and pain-modulating neurotransmitters, and pain receptors, and good vs. bad clinical trials, and what acupuncture works for and what it doesn't. It was a refreshing change to the usual "discussion" that I have heard in Christian circles, which consists of labelling acupuncture as witchcraft, then locking the mind firmly shut and throwing away the key. There is a lot about the human nervous system that we are only just beginning to understand. May I remind my fellow forum members that when Edison invented electricity, many devout Christians refused to use electric lighting because they considered it to be witchcraft or an invention of Satan. May I also point out that Western acupuncture (the kind with the research backing behind it) is vastly different from the traditional variety practiced by the Chinese people from ancient times. It is like trying to compare medicine in the times of the Ancient Greeks (with its humors, references to pagan gods and remedies made of crushed scorpion and cow dung) to the way health care is done today.
