WE, AS ADVENTISTS, KNOW LITTLE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SABBATH

According to the Spirit of Prophecy statement below, we sense and realize but little of the importance and glory of the Sabbath. Being that the Sabbath is one of our most basic doctrines, we have always thought that we knew more about the Sabbath than any other people. The message of the True Witness in Revelation 3:14-19, also, confirms the fact that Laodicea does not realize her blind condition. Please carefully examine the detail in the following inspired statement:

“I saw that we sensed and realized but little of the importance of the Sabbath, to what we yet should realize and know of its importance and glory. I saw we knew not what it was yet to ride upon the high places of the earth and to be fed with the heritage of Jacob. But when the refreshing and latter rain shall come from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power we shall know what it is to be fed with the heritage of Jacob and ride upon the high places of the earth. Then shall we see the Sabbath more in its importance and glory. But we shall not see it in all its glory and importance until the covenant of peace is made with us at the voice of God, ...”." Mar 245

We will see more of the importance of the Sabbath when the “refreshing and latter rain shall come from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power ...“Then shall we see the Sabbath more in its importance and glory.”

“I saw that God had children who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They have not rejected the light upon it. And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully. This enraged the churches and nominal Adventists, as they could not refute the Sabbath truth.” EW 33

At the beginning of the time of trouble, under the power of the Holy Spirit, God's people understand something more about the Sabbath, and absolutely nothing can cause them to be silent regarding the truth that the Latter Rain power has impressed upon their minds.

Although the seventh-day Sabbath is not a shadow or a type from the old sanctuary system, yet, the Sabbath casts “shadows”, and these “shadow” Sabbaths dispersed throughout the sanctuary system, open up a whole new field of prophecy. The effect of realizing the deeper truth regarding the Holy Sabbath, anchors believers, so that while all else is being shaken around them, they are grounded and sealed in the truth, so they cannot be moved.

“But we shall not see it in all its glory and importance until the covenant of peace is made with us at the voice of God,...” Mar 245

What exactly is God saying?? We already know that the Jubilee begins when we hear the voice of God .

“And as God spoke the day and the hour of Jesus' coming and delivered the everlasting covenant to His people, He spoke one sentence, and then paused, while the words were rolling through the earth....Then commenced the jubilee, when the land should rest.” EW 286

Leviticus 25:8-10 states that the Jubilee trumpet was blown on the Day of Atonement of the Biblical Jubilee year, announcing the great year of release.

“And thou shalt number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.

“Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth [day] of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout [all] the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you;” Leviticus 25:8-10.

In the type, the Day of Atonement was always called a Sabbath (Leviticus 23:32), even though it fell on a different day of the week each year, in these typical rehearsals of the fall feasts; in the great anti-type, the Day of Atonement then, must occur on a seventh-day Sabbath, These shadow Sabbaths in type, represented seventh-day Sabbaths in the anti-type.

Sweetly dawns the day of Sabbath

As the sun sinks in the west,

And our Lord, the great Jehovah,

Brings the symbol of His rest.

With what memories it comes freighted

Fresh from Eden's glorious birth,

Grand memorial of creation,

God's own rest day on the earth.

Nature smiled in perfect beauty,

Fragrance filled each gentle breeze,

Fruits and flowers in rich abundance,

Birds made vocal all the trees.

Adam, who had vast dominion,

There proved recreant to his trust;

And it brings His peace for all;

See the light from Jesus' face.

There were some beautiful songs and poems written in that era, one of which was from the James White Publishing Association.

The anticipation of the soon-coming and long-awaited Sabbath Jubilee is a sentiment expressed in some of the songs.

Notice the words of one of these, from the hymnal, “Christ in Song,” entitled, “THE YEAR OF JUBILEE.”

THE YEAR OF JUBILEE

1. “Oh, glory to God! It is coming again, 'Tis the glad jubilee of the children of men;

Then blow ye the trumpet, shout glory and sing, And join in the praises of Jesus the King.

Chorus: Shout with the voice of triumph, Soon shall the saints be free (be free); Glory to the Lord! Hallelujah! Hasten the jubilee!”

2 . “'Tis the glad anti-type of that day long ago, When the hosts of the Lord might not gather or sow;

When the minions of Israel from labor were free, And the land was to rest in the glad jubilee.

Chorus: Shout with the voice of triumph, Soon shall the saints be free (be free); Glory to the Lord! Hallelujah! Hasten the jubilee!”

3. “Yes, gladder by far is that rest “by and by,” When on wings like the eagle we mount to the sky:

We shall dwell evermore in that land of the blest, In that grand jubilee, in that Sabbath of rest.
