nuff sed Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Campmeeting USED to be a time when Adventists met together for fellowship, even if it meant just for the weekend. Campmeeting USED to be a time when the members met and got better acquainted with the pastors and administration of the conference.... thus helping to blur the preceptions of 'them' vs. 'us'.. (conf.vs. laity) Then various conferences no longer required pastors to attend..........so they didn't. Then various conferences cut the time to just weekend meetings without boarding accommodations. Then they cut out the campmeeting altogether............In the case of my own conference they renamed the Regional meeting 2 1/2 hours north of the center of the state and call it Campmeeting. I miss it. nuff sed Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted December 10, 2010 Members Posted December 10, 2010 Oregon is supposed to be having Campmeeting in 2011 after not having it this year due to budget costs. What got to me was that the Oregon Conference, with all its very wealthy members, could not come up with $250,000 in pledges for the 2010 Campmeeting to occur. They only got $70,000 in pledges from the entire Conference constituency. I thought that was shameful. re: Pastors not required to attend.. I think here they *are* required to attend. I know they help with setting things up, traffic control, security, maintenance, and lots of other things. People don't generally know just how much pastors are involved in campmeeting (at least here). Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
