There are going to be so many people enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, , that will say, "so who are you? I have never met your before?" AND he will say my name is Jesus. They will say "I am sure I never met you before" to which Jesus reply will be "we were best friends" I died for you,,... YET if you read Math 7:21 several will be there and say "I did all these miracles in your name" and Jesus will reply "I never knew you" Not an official statement, just my opinion. Administrators Gail Posted December 12, 2010 Administrators Posted December 12, 2010 I saw this yesterday- very inspiring! It just goes to show that people from other faiths are willing to jump over boundaries to offer compassion. Compassion is one of those heart things that God has placed inside each of us, I'm sure. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

cardw Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 It is true that helping other people brings happiness. In terms of solving the problems that create poverty on this scale I don't know if this will change that much. 400 people a day is a lot of work, but it pales to the millions of people in India and around the world who suffer. I don't have an individual solution, but I think this man provides an inspiration of how humanity as a whole need to learn how to take individual responsibility for distributing our resources to everyone to at least provide a baseline quality of life. I don't think anyone needs to have 30-50 million dollars a year to live on. As the gap between the poor and the rich increases, this type of poverty begins to emerge. In every country where there is a healthy middle class, poverty is much less. I think this is because more people are working because the wealth is not being held by a few, but is spread out among more people to use to create activity and productivity. What is tragic is that we have labelled charity socialism in this country. It has now become evil to give to those in need. And we continue to give tax breaks to the most wealthy in this country who are not using this wealth to create anything, but are simply holding on to it and manipulating the system to create even more wealth for themselves without producing anything useful for society. They are the real welfare recipients. Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8

Dottie Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 It's not charity that has become "wrong." It is the state taking from those who work and doling out what it chooses to those who do not, taking as its due a large percentage of what it collects for its self. This country (U.S.) is the givingest country in the world on an individual basis. Quote

It is the state taking from those who work and doling out what it chooses to those who do not, taking as its due a large percentage of what it collects for its self. This country (U.S.) is the givingest country in the world on an individual basis. People who work on Wall Street provide no product or service and yet their greed and incompetence has cost this country far more than our government has given to welfare. And yet the conservative right continues to support legislation and subsidies for the wealthiest and justifies this because welfare is out of balance. I agree that we shouldn't just give money out. I would gladly pay a portion of my taxes to help out poverty if there was accountability. And I do this out of self interest as well, because poverty reduces all of our quality of life. But in the mean time, plugging the gushing money pipe to the most wealthy in this country needs to be stopped. When people simply spout propaganda you are helping to keep the corrupt and greedy in power. Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8
Dr. Shane Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 ADRA is doing a great work in some of the poorest parts of the world and we should bring them up in conversation whenever given opportunity. Those that don't know exactly everything they do ought to visit their website and become informed. ADRA is one of the humanitarian arms of our church that does impressive work for the most needy. The gap between the rich and the poor is due to government corruption. Nations with a healthy middle class are nations with a lot less corruption. The keys to a wealthy society are 1)opportunity, 2)education, & 3)semi-honest government. I use the term "semi-honest" because no government is perfectly honest but some are much better than others. Opportunity is created by open markets and investors. Education must be accessible to everyone and include both collegiate and vocation options. A free press, transparent elections and multi-layers of law enforcement are required for a semi-honest government. As a society moves more people out of poverty and into the middle class, it will also move more into the super-rich. That is a good thing. If proper government regulation is in place, the super-rich will not be able to oppress the lower classes and will end up creating more opportunity for them (the lower classes). olger Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I find the term "making a difference" to be somewhat nebulous. Hitler made a difference. Ravi Zacharias makes a difference. Mark Twain made a difference. How can we be more specific? g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
