Moderators Bravus Posted December 23, 2010 Moderators Posted December 23, 2010 My youngest is starting her law degree soon, and we just found out this evening that she received a partial scholarship! She had originally been told she had missed out, but they reconsidered her application. It means about $30,000 in student debt that she won't have to start her working life with, which is a huge blessing. Quote Truth is important
Members abelisle Posted December 23, 2010 Members Posted December 23, 2010 Congrats! That's excellent news! Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Moderators Bravus Posted December 23, 2010 Author Moderators Posted December 23, 2010 ...and, slightly spookily, an ad for the uni she's going to just popped up in one of the boxes on the right of this page even though I didn't mention its name! Quote Truth is important
Members phkrause Posted December 23, 2010 Members Posted December 23, 2010 Awesome, congrats to you and obviously her.:) Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
cricket Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 That's great news, Bravus! I know what a relief that must be! Quote
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted December 23, 2010 Moderators Posted December 23, 2010 Hallelujah!! She DESERVES a scholarship, if only for the fact that her father is a professor, educating others of her generation also. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Stan Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 NIce Christmas gift, congratulations on the scholarship ,does she take after her mother more? Moderators Bravus Posted December 24, 2010 Author Moderators Posted December 24, 2010 Thanks all for the congrats and best wishes. She's worked extremely hard in high school and got very good grades: As in the subjects she likes and is really good at like English, Law and Philosophy and Bs in the tougher ones she took on anyway like Chemistry, Physics and Maths. She shares some of her father's academic interests (taught herself the Greek alphabet when she was 12 because she was writing a novel and wanted to give the characters interesting Greek names, loves to talk and read philosophy) and a lot of her mother's drive, focus and hard work. We're incredibly blessed with both our daughters - I've talked about Cassie, our older daughter (who is going into third year in a high school teaching (Psychology and Physics) program at university), but this post is about Alex. She's not turning 17 until January 4, and will start university on January 9. That involves moving away from home, but she'll be 17 goingon 25 and has been very mature for a long time, so we're not worried about it - except that we'll miss her. Skype and the phone will definitely get a good workout. Anyway, enough proud Dad stuff, but when we're counting our blessings our fantastic daughters are right near the top of the list. Administrators Gail Posted December 24, 2010 Administrators Posted December 24, 2010 Great news! What a smart bunch as well as a good-looking one you have, there, Bravus!! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
cricket Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Whoa! She's leaving in just a couple of weeks and you've just now been notified of the scholarship?! Talk about "late notice". We were informed of my daughter's scholarships approximately 3 months before my daughter's university courses started. That information helped us greatly in choosing which of the two university's she'd attend. (Luckily for us, it was the first choice and one closest to home.) I'm so glad the scholarship came through for Alex! What a great "Christmas" gift! Quote
Moderators Nan Posted December 24, 2010 Moderators Posted December 24, 2010 Great news Bravus.....that is early to start uni isn't it, usually early March in the more southern states. Guess that is why you did not get much advance notice, not a lot of time between posting the exam results and notification of uni places and scholarships. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted December 24, 2010 Author Moderators Posted December 24, 2010 Yeah, she's going to Bond and they do 3 semesters a year rather than 2, hence the early start. The offers for other unis don't even come out until after they start. Bond was her first choice and she got the offer a month or so ago. Quote Truth is important
cricket Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 offtopic ... two university's she'd attend. Sorry to barge in here so off topic, but this post has been bugging me all day. It's the first time I've been able to get back online and correct it--but I'm too late to make the correction in the original post. ...two universities she'd ... /offtopic Way to go Alex! I hope all the best for what sounds like a great university program! Quote
