If I leave the chruch,John,Stan,Richard is not responsible. I Am While they may have stepped on my toes or whatever,it is me that made the decision that I have a right not to be offended. If my children leave the church I should not look any further than our own home and training we did or did not give them.It is not because of a lousy SS teacher.My job was to train them how to react to that. Poverty,that good old scapegoat for almost all sins. For many,get off the backside and change things.For others,some will always be poor,gives no reason to rob,murder and rape Someone decides to blow dozens of people to bits it is the fault of the bomber.Not mine because I live in the US and am an american. Third world populations starving,look at how their leaders live.They starve no matter how much aid is sent.Why,because we didn't send it correctly? Or because I had more than I needed for supper? We're told that we are judged individually as if we had been the only person on earth. So when people drop out of the church, or leave Christ or reject Him, none of us will be able to find a valid alibi by talking about what others did or said. God understands, for instances, that if a person gets molested or raped in his/her youth, they might later have severe problems to deal with as a result, but in the final analysis, we can't blame our sinful practices on others because He provides us the power to overcome them. So while He does consider our individual circumstances and even our heredity, like you say, the judgment will be about what we do, not about what others did. The point above has been well made: the one who is a stumbling block to another has his/her own accounting to face. Not that the stumbler should focus on blaming the other person rather than being accountable for his/her own actions: on that point we're in agreement. Personal accountability is crucial. But I read your opening post partly as a response to discussions that have been going on here about how the church can better keep and gain members (better thought of as souls in the kingdome rather than numbers in a ledger). While it's true that those who leave are accountable for that decision, those who are within the church are still accountable to seek God's will for the church and serve with all their might. No where did I suggest we do church badly. Over the years being in the same church since 1944,we have had the great,greatest,worst,and the so-so as members and pastors. One a wonderful man was nicknamed Pastor Sedative,should give you a good idea of his sermons.People didn't bolt for the door because chruch was not done according to their wishes.We had the original fire and brimstorm preacher,Even the children loved listening to him. He had your attention from the first word.Huge man and when he spoke no one dozed off. As well as everything in between. It was up to the parents beginning in the home instilling in their children a love of God and the church,not a love of entertainment.Understanding at times a pastor could be boring or downright disagreeable.So what? Maybe the children's programs could/should be better.Then shut up and get in there and do it.Don't think enough help is offered to those in need? Shut up and do it and others will follow. Chruch is not being kept clean enough,you know what a broom is for. Quit looking to see how much cleaveage is showing,just worry about your own family. Don't like mee in tight trousers,quit looking for it. Since the first day in 1944 till now I cannot recall a man in to tight pants.maybe I am missing something. I have four boys that were/are very sports minded.During their teen years while watching a football game a friend came over for me to help her with something. She didn't stay long. The tirade began as to why they did not have TV.If you looked at the tight pants the players were wearing how could you have clean thoughts? Truthfully the only thought I ever had about their pants was "thank goodness I don't do their laundry". There were many similar area's we disagreed on.Her children are no longer in the church and is this type of reasoning why? If so,that goes back to the parents. We have had great times in that little chruch and some awful times.No incident was such it justified leaving the denomination. No church needs to entertain every sabbath. Not enough going on within the church walls to keep your children interested. Do something about it. Great reason for parties and get togethers at your own home We will all give an accounting and it will not be acceptable to say"Well,things would have been different for me if....... LOL Not only do I agree with what has been stated here, but I would like to add that God can glorify Himself and will anoint us with His grace in spite of ANY circumstance. The trials that knock us down God can use and our trials are ours alone. They are unique to each individual experience. That builds up faith and loyalty to He who created the whole universe. Too many people complain that they don't know God and don't see Him working in their lives. Maybe that is because they don't recognize His power working out the impossible for them. The reality of a sinful world is that we suffer LOTS. But God has promised to save us and strengthen us and to work all things together for the good of them that are the called according to His purpose.
