Christ is the only One who has the merits by which we may come before God. All other merits are to be held in abomination. "The parable of the wedding garment opens before us a lesson of the highest consequence. By the marriage is represented the union of humanity with divinity; the wedding garment represents the character which all must possess who shall be accounted fit guests for the wedding... It confers high honor. Yet this honor is unappreciated. The King's authority is despised." C.O.L.307. Mrs. White is here talking about the parable of Matt.22. There is much more on that page that all should take the time to read. In other words, "If divine power does not combine with human effort, I would not give a straw for all that the greatest man could do. The Holy Spirit is wanting in our work." 1 S.M.411. However, "With humanity and divinity combined you can accomplish a work as enduring as eternity." Faith & Works, p.27. In other words, "The law of the human and the divine action makes the receiver a laborer with God. It brings man where he can, united with divinity, work the works of God. Humanity touches humanity. Divine power and the human agency combined will be a complete success, for Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything." These quotes clearly tell us what the standard of character is and of the privilege that is ours. In Testimonies, Vol.1, p.353 we are told that during the latter rain the people of God will partake of the Holy Spirit in large measure and they will grow up into Christ until the full corn of His character is developed in the ear. This alone will prepare them for the last conflict, the time of Jacob's trouble. Unless we partake of the Holy Spirit in large measure, we shall fail miserably as far as perfecting our characters and the return of Christ will continue to be delayed. This is how knowing all this has affected me. How about you Gail? Are these quotes affecting you? sky *take a look at my last post in the thread Please Judge This Message for Yourselves. You have so many quotes at your disposal, but a personal testimony from one whose heart God keeps is a powerful witness! That is why I asked. For me, the quotes just affirm what God is telling me in His word. When Jesus promised that He would not leave us comfortless, that He would come to ME, when He talks about abiding in me, what hope and power there is in that promise! That is our only strength to live as He did. We receive the "mind of Christ", and that is where we are transformed. I find that amazing stuff! It makes it so that I don't want to be anywhere else. He gives me compassion that I don't normally possess, and patience with others that I cannot claim naturally. It is grace to help in time of need- it really is! Does anyone else find it so? What is usually left out is the matter of the merits of Christ, that unless we look to Him and accept His merits which it is our privilege to claim, we cannot be saved, we cannot partake of divinity by which everything will be accomplished. But His merits we must claim on a daily basis in order to receive the blessings of the Covenant of grace. The Testimonies plainly tell us that we must make it our life business to look to Jesus and to claim His merits. Otherwise we will not make it, we will make shipwreck of faith. As we do this, the Father clothes us with the robe of Christ's righteousness, not only imputed but imparted righteousness, and His righteousness imparts all the powers, all the grace, all the penitence, all the inclination, all the pardon of sins, as we are told in F.W. p.24. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." I have been on this forum long enough for you to be able to make a judgment--discernment--, at least partly. But then in order to discern spiritual things, one must be spiritually minded. Right? When you read those statements, what was your first reaction? was it, Oh, okay, sky may be able to quote these statements but is it possible that he himself or anyone else for that matter be living up to the high standard that these quotes describe? did you not think that? I am sure you will agree that theory alone never works in practice, especially when it comes to spiritual things. Here it takes more than the mere theory. Christianity is more than theory. It is an inward, living principle which reveals itself outwardly. It brings out the fruits of the Spirit.
