CGMedley Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 The topic of megachurches has buzzed through Evangelical circles for the last few years. Now an Adventist scholar has chimed in on the discussion. Read "Super-sized" churches in this week's Adventist Review. Here's the link. http://www.adventistreview.org/issue.php?issue=2011-1502&page=16 Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted January 21, 2011 Moderators Posted January 21, 2011 The article has interesting points. On the member level, church size is an individual preference. A large church can fulfill the needs of certain types of personalities. My choice, when there is a choice (often there isn't) has been to join a church where my humble talents are needed, though in smaller churches you may sacrifice some of the activities that a large church offers. A very large church doesn't need me because they have a group of super-talented people that made it big to start with. For me, it is nice that a church be of a size that when I am absent, someone notices, and and when I visit, the greeters know I am a visitor. LD Quote LD
Administrators Gail Posted January 21, 2011 Administrators Posted January 21, 2011 One person I've known who belongs to a large church told me that whenever a new arrival comes in, the church assigns him/her to a small group first for fellowship and support, before they even begin to take part in the large church services. There might be something to that! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

doug yowell Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Interesting article.I noticed that the author stopped short of recommending the dissemination of the Loma Linda University Church (membership 4000+).How many other SDA megachurches do we have (2000 per week attendence)? Quote
