Amelia Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Leggings banned at Forest Grove school Posted on January 21, 2011 at 7:36 PM The principal at Neil Armstrong middle school in Forest Grove made an announcement to students that they would not be allowed to wear leggings or yoga pants because it's not appropriate for school. Woody Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Good. Okay but what are the boys going to look at if leggings are banned? And define 'leggings'. The jeans now adays are not much different. shelly Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 The girls in the video don't look bad-hardly band worthy. Quote
Ellen Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I agree with the standard. The students will stretch the rules as far as they can get away with. There are lots of hours outside of school to wear whatever their parents will allow. This only makes people say we will have to have uniforms - which idea I don't like. I like to see variety and personality in clothes within the school standard. School years are the only time that young people know what are appropriate dress codes. Along with other lessons learned at that time. Quote
cricket Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I used to be the biggest opponent of school uniforms; then, my children's school mandated them. Now, I see the value in uniforms and agree with those that uniforms are a great asset in learning. I will say, however, that girls should not be allowed to wear skirts above the knee. I've seen too much above the knee as it is! Leggings are different than jeans in so far as the definition of what they show. Leggings are too tight around the contours. I do hope this school mentioned in the article has rules set in place for boys as well. (And the creepiest thing these teenaged girls may or may not know is that it is the men in the parking lots and the male teachers who NEED to have them wearing something less revealing.) Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 The principle said leggings can be worn under a dress, a long shirt, or even jeans. That mother said it wasn't practical, which simply isn't true. So, you can't wear them under jeans, but it's easy to wear them under a dress or a long shirt or sweater. The only way I'll wear leggings is under a dress. In fact, the only way I'll wear a dress this time of year is with pants or leggings under it. They should just go with uniforms. That would solve the problem. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Amelia Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Personally, if it was a choice between leggings/yoga pants or pajama bottoms; I would pick the leggings. I dislike seeing people wearing night clothes as day clothes. Moderators Nan Posted January 23, 2011 Moderators Posted January 23, 2011 Uniforms are the norm in this part of the world. The students mostly find ways to show their own personalities, I am certain their individualities are not being repressed What I did like in that clip was the student wearing Ugg boots. They originated in this part of the world and a US company tried to patent the name by which they have been known for years. Much to the relief of us Down Under that attempt failed, here at least.
