A God thing

It was Thursday, I hurt my back at work

It was sudden, unexpected sharp pain.

The boss insisted I go to the Out Patient's clinic.

They put me on light duty.

Friday: I worked as usual, but kept it slow and easy.

Then the big boss sent word. Go home, you will have a desk job Monday and until you are off light duty.

Monday morning @ 9:00 AM, I got to work and up-dated the person covering for me. Then while enroute to the light duty area, my cell phone rang. "Henry where are you. I need to talk to you."

It was a co-worker. I turned left and walked into her office, "I'm here."

She was stunned. "You're here!" "Sit here and take this call on my land line."

My wife and two daughters (3-years old and 8) were in a wreck and were enroute to the ER.

My wife was making a left turn to take our daughter to a doctor's appointment. While my wife waited for an opening in the traffic, the car coming behind her did not realize that she was stopped with her blinker on. At the last minute, the girl swerved to the right and braked. She caught the passenger's rear quarter of our van and thrust it over the center line into the on coming traffic.

A truck hit my wife head on. The truck rolled over and my wife 's van spun around like a top. My wife was knocked unconscious. The seat that the children were sitting on in their car seats came loose from the floor and fell back onto the seat behind it.

My wife was dazed and could not comprehend what was going on. The baby screamed bloody murder (until they found her dolly). And our older daughter cried, "I want my daddy!" And she remembered, he works at hospice.

The man calling was the truck driver. The week before the accident, he had done some contract work for our company. Our number was still on his phone, so when he heard hospice, he called to see if they knew me. And within 2-minutes of the accident, I was talking to him on the phone.

I excused myself from light duty, (the Lord had worked it out so that my patient load was covered for the week) and I was in the children's ER moments after they arrived.

It took hours to get them checked out. By 3:00 PM they were cleared to go. But the little one started vomiting and I checked her right back into the ER. Then it was a brain scan and lab tests. Finally, I took the kids to the adult ER and waited for them to finish checking out my wife.

The Md had been so concerned about her loss of consciousness that he missed her fractured knee. So thinking that we would be on our way any minute, I kept the kids occupied until 10:00 PM.

What a sight we were. Daddy with a sore back. Mommy with a broken leg and stitches all over her head. An 8-year old that didn't want to ride in a car to go home. And a little one that was just hungry and tired.

It was a God thing. He did not prevent the accident or the pain and suffering. But He preserved everyone (nobody died in the accident) and He saw everybody through to recovery.

It was a God thing. And God had a purpose for it to work out just as it did.

So thankful that no one was seriously injured. God made everything fit together and come out well. He is awesome!

The recovery is over from this accident and all is well. Since then, my wife has fallen several times and fractured a hip, fell again tore the rotator cuff in her shoulder, and then she fell and broke her pelvis and wrist. She has a hard time walking with a walker. And she goes without it most of the time. The surgeries and the rehab have been ongoing with one problem following another.

The shoulder did not do well. The surgeon said it was because of her neck. The neck surgeon said no it is in her shoulder and he forced it through range of motion after doing the neck surgery. She immediately lost another 30% +/- of the use of that arm after he did that. Both doctors blame the other and they both say they cannot do anything else to help her. But she cannot use her arm as good as she did before the neck surgeon manipulated it like he did post surgery.

When I see how God has led in the past, I know He is still leading. But it has not been an easy road.

But it is a God thing. He knows the end from the beginning. And He makes provisions for the problems before we know that we have problems. And His grace is sufficient to see us through.

Surely we are not alone in this. Others have had God do some wonderful things too.

My wife was telling me about another God thing a few months ago.

Her friend Meme was keeping her granddaughter for the day. They decided to send out for pizza.

When the pizza delivery came, Meme got out her check book and got so confused, she could not write the check. The delivery man said, if you were my grandmother, I'd be calling 911.

Meme said, "I'm not your grandmother." And passed out.

The pizza delivery man, called 911. And he had Meme's 7-year old granddaughter call her mom or dad to tell them what was going on.

When the ambulance arrived, the pizza man, let them in and told them what had happened. He left. Just as Meme was loaded on the ambulance, her daughter arrived, got her daughter and followed the ambulance to the hospital.

Meme's daughter sings the praises of that pizza man. He could have said, "I'm out of here," when Meme started acting weird. But he stayed, called for help, and found a way to tell the family that there was a problem.

When all was said and done, Meme had a brain tumor. They did surgery and she went into rehab. She lost her apartment in the process. She could not afford the co-pay for the nursing home where she had therapy and her rent.

It happened so fast. Then she suddenly died.

Had the pizza man not interceded, she might have died right there when she first displayed symptoms. But God put the right man at the right place at the right time and he did the right thing. The family had a little time to say goodbye to Meme.

The sad part is that she always stayed in SDA circles. She knew our teachings and had so many SDA friends, but she always found a reason to not go all the way with Jesus and become an SDA. She spoke well of the truth and of her SDA friend, but she often said that it was not for her.

It was a God thing!

If you took me to say that God was responsible for the bad things, I was not clear. God did not prevent the bad things, but He worked through them. Before my wife was injured, God worked it out that I was off for a week with pay and I was able to care for her when she was laid up with a broken leg.

She went to the doctor's yesterday with a complaint of hip pain. He did not think it was anything serious, but he took an x-ray to be on the safe side and promised to get back with her Monday.

Called her before she got to the house. She has a hip fracture.

Just changed her insurance company in December. When she made the change, she double checked to see that all of her Doctors that she used participated in the new program and they did.

But in January, the new insurance company dropped all the orthopedists that she had been using. Now that she has a broken hip in February, they are having difficulty locating an Orthopedist.

If I told you the rest of the story, you would not believe it.

More prayers please. And please pray that people will start buying my books. I just wrote my sixth that has not been sent to a publisher yet, but I give it freely as an e-book. After I get some feedback and make some fine tuning, I'll see about getting it into print.

Odd as it seems. This is a partial answer to prayer.

But she has been standing in the way of something that I believe is God's will and I have been praying that the Lord would work this situation out and soon. And this sudden unexpected hip fracture today puts the whole problem into a different perspective.

More prayers needed that God's will be done.

Satan knows that his time is short and I'm not on his favorite people list, because I teach it as I see it. Some examples:

But beware of being uncertain or indifferent. The message to Laodicea condemns those that are content to be lukewarm.

Know where you stand and take your stand for what you know!

And be prepared to have some in your church family to turn against you, the world to despise you, and Satan to attack you from every possible angle: temptations, trouble, and doubts.

Then hold on to Jesus and be hid in the cleft of the Rock that will not be moved. Amen!

Lest I come across as saying that God things are bad or tragic, I would share a good God Thing.

Our home was foreclosed Nov 2010. My wife stole our kids away without as much as a good bye when I was not at home. I came home to an empty house: no note and nobody.

It was almost a week before one of our grown children thought that I might be worried. He called me to assure me that everybody was fine and to find out what I knew. He was very surprised that i only knew that she had left with the younger kids without a clue to their whereabouts. He let me know where they were and that he was not in favor of the secretive tactics or the decisions that had been made independently.

One day the new owner came by to survey his prize. He was surprised that the house was still occupied. I was surprised that it foreclosed so quickly, since I was not that far behind. He offered to sell it back to me @ $30,000 less than I owed and well above the fire sale price that he got it for. I gave him the grand tour.

No appliances, no hot water tank, roof that leaked, basement that flooded when it rained - water poured right through the concrete walls, septic system that was not working - when it rained it backed up into the basement, black mold on all the down stairs walls, all the carpet was ruined from the flooding, and a central air that was new when I moved in but that did not work the first summer I turned it on.

I was unemployed and could not afford the repairs. I had been working to fix some of these things, but then it would rain or the possibility of generating some cash would present itself and my attention would be turned away. My office would get dried out and cleaned up and then it would flood again. I just gave up on it.

As the time of my moving out neared, I called to ask the new owner if he would cut me a better deal. He did, but I still did not have the cash to make it work. He extended my move date to let me work on a buy back plan. Then the third time he lowered the price again and extended the move date.

I decided to buy it back and resell it to get a little money to help with the move, but I did not have any money. so I advertised it locally and told everyone what the deal was. Only church members looked at the property.

When one "elder" heard the story, he jewed me down so low that I regretted even considering selling it to him, but I had given him my word and accepted his. As the date for closing neared, he brought my price down more.

It was not like I bought a bargain and was making $50,000 in a month. I had put $60,000 into my house that was taken away. And now the man with less cash in it than I put in it (because he had cash up front) was making a killing and the elder was cutting me out. And finally when I asked the "elder" about the closing, he said he was not sure that he was buying it.

I had been turning prospective buyers away because he gave me his word and as it got down to the wire, he changed his mind and was not sure that he was going to buy it. But never told me. He was stringing me on.

What to do? I called everyone that was in my caller ID trying to find the buyers. For a host of reasons, none of them could get it. The most regrettable reason was time. Had I not trusted the "elder" these prospective buyers would have had more time to have building contractors and plumbers to check it out. But the clock had been run down to the last week and there was not enough time to make it come together.

Tuesday morning, I usually went to a mens prayer group at 6 AM. They had been praying that the Lord would work this out. And I prayed that prayer constantly though the weeks and months. This Tuesday, I almost decided not to go to the prayer group, because I had to be out by Friday and I was no where near ready.

At the prayer breakfast, I shared how the house situation was at present. We prayed together. And one of the group asked if his parents could look at the property. They did the next day. Thursday, they agreed to purchase. And Friday we closed.

Later I learned that this young man wasn't going to go to the prayer breakfast that morning. At the last minute, he decided to go as did I, and God's timing was perfect.

Had the house not been foreclosed, i never could have got what I still owed on it and the payments that were in the rears and some money to start over. But because it did foreclose, the buyer on the courthouse steps made some money, I did not leave empty handed, and the final purchasers got a fixer-upper that they put into shape very quickly well below its current market value.

That was a God thing.

We are living in the endtime. And Satan as a roaring lion is after us. God is giving us personal experiences to prepare us to go through Jacob's time of trouble.

God has to develop our faith now. And sometimes the process requires a pretty hot fire.

The only thing that is true in what you have listed above is that the hour of His judgment began October 22, 1844.

Sorry that all these things happen to you but I can understand why your wife would want to leave after I read about the condition of the house. And there may be other reasons as to why she left, reasons that you are not disclosing but I would not be surprised one bit that she left because of some of your teachings which I find very odd.

The Lord allowed this to happen to you and your family for a reason, to be sure. Let's hope you find out why with God's help and much agonizing with Him before something worse happens to you. I believe it has something to do with your ministry.
