Stan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 "As we've been watching the news unfold concerning the resignation of Egyptian President Mubarak and the senseless deaths of about 300 Egyptians, we are reminded that God is still in control and we join in prayer over the safety of the citizens and the governing power that will now have to make decisions for this country.” – Pastor Dan Jackson, president of the North American Division. Lauralea Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Amen and amen. Those in the Mideast must have their day of freedom to know and understand the truth as it is in Jesus. Quote Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.
Stan Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 wasn't 1989 the year the US invaded Iraq? Our church has taken a tremendous beating because of that. Moderators lazarus Posted February 12, 2011 Moderators Posted February 12, 2011 I think Lazarus was referring to the Berlin Wall coming down in 1989. yep. From Wiki: The Revolutions of 1989 (also known as the Fall of Communism, the Collapse of Communism, the Revolutions of Eastern Europe and the Autumn of Nations) were the revolutions which overthrew Soviet-style communist states in Eastern-bloc European countries. Stan Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 Saddam guaranteed religious freedom for Adventists. He made it law that the University would have seats available every Sunday for the Adventist kids who would not right exams on Sabbath. He paid for most of the renovation to our Main Church in Baghdad. AND encouraged the Church to use Iraq as the springboard for the other surronding countries. My friend, and a Pastor in this Conference, was the President of the Mission there. He had an Adventist Minister as part of her personal counsel. Now that 500 member Church is broken, only a handful left. The other SDA churches are not doing well. Here is a photo of what we had, it has since been bombed a few times Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com

Even under the previous several "secular" regimes Christianity has been repressed, and often persecuted. Dr. Shane Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Now that 500 member Church is broken, only a handful left. The other SDA churches are not doing well. Operation Desert Shield/Storm took place in 1990/91. Did Saddam's policy toward Adventists change then or was it after Saddam was toppled that the policy changed? Governmental change is seldom painless. I am talking about when the system of government changes not when an election removes some and replaces them with others. When communist regimes took power from royalty and colonial powers it wasn't pretty. When those regimes fell, that wasn't all smooth either. Stability certainly has some good. Change can be good but it normally comes at a cost of human life. Even so, please come Lord Jesus. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Guest truthseeker007 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I think Mubarak wanted to secure his family wealth before he stood down. While his people live in poverty, Mubarak himself acquired a fortune of 70 billion dollars. I think he knew that he had to step down, but first he wanted to make sure his money was safe. He was buying time for himself. I hate leaders like Kim Jung ill and Mubarak who don t care about their people, but only try to enrich themselves. Unfortunately it s also something which we see more and more in the Western Nations. More and more it becomes clear that Robert Cox' his definition of world hegemony as a constellation of class-powers, state structures and international organisations that consolidate the dominance of the worldwide capitalist system, is typical for the current politics. Governments have become too big and enrich themselves whereas they are supposed to serve their people. It s tragic, but in the Netherlands this is becoming clearer and clearer. Quote
