Moderators John317 Posted February 18, 2011 Moderators Posted February 18, 2011 They were dancing for joy, happy, excited, euphoric, etc, etc!Happyadvents.... But why were they? Was it because of the truth as it is in Jesus? Or was it because of some silliness? I can't see the young people of the 1840s & 1860s, during the formative years of the SDA church, needing the kinds of things that were in the video to make them happy and excited. That is a kind of happiness and excitement that is artificial and doesn't last. Sure, I understand that they are "kids," and they were just having fun, but we should be showing our kids that happiness and being excited doesn't depend on those kinds of things. Real happiness and true joy come as a result of knowing Christ and knowing the truth as it is in Jesus. Everything else is superficial and very temporary. When I was at PUC, we also had good times with each other, but our best times were always directly related to the gospel and the Adventist message. But then there was a time not too many years ago when I went out dancing and drinking, and to the shows and bars, doing a lot of excting and interesting things in order to feel pleasure and excitement. So I know what that's like too, after I'd wandered away from Christ and the church. But those days are gone. My thinking and feelings have totally changed. I praise the Lord and am happy and joyful and excited even when I am in excruciating pain. It isn't a joyfulness that depends on feelings or on circumstanes. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted February 18, 2011 Administrators Posted February 18, 2011 Do you mean to tell me that in this video, the speaker died his hair some weird colour and the students danced to the glory of God? sky If you actually paid attention to the video it explains the reason for the celebration and why the university president dyed his hair blue. Your reaction seems so uni-dimensional in a multi-dimensional world. It's like looking at a flower garden and complaining about colorful flowers. Dance like music comes in all shapes and sizes and is done for a multitude of reasons in an infinite variety of ways... not all bad. If one can sing a song of joy, one should be able to shout for joy, and dance for joy. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Real happiness and true joy come as a result of knowing Christ and knowing the truth as it is in Jesus. Everything else is superficial and very temporary. I'm sure our institutions can do both types of things. I think we can allow our kids to be exuberant and exited. Allow them to have fun but also teach them what makes for true happiness. They are not mutually exclusive. I allow my boys to run around the house, dance to music, share silly jokes. We have fun playing musical statues with our two year old. We all do it together. We also have worship. We talk about serious issues like Egypt, education health. I don't think the kids NEEDED to do it. They did it. They had fun. They went to class. Moderators John317 Posted February 18, 2011 Moderators Posted February 18, 2011 Sure, I agree. I'm not finding fault with what I saw on the video. God created us with emotions and feelings, they did not come with strings attached that only allows us to expeerience them under 'spiritual' conditions. Moderators james423 Posted February 19, 2011 Moderators Posted February 19, 2011 I know I'm going to get hit hard for saying what follows, but I feel I must say it. I'm a Southern graduate - and I must say that I disagree with the type of "joy" shown in the video, not to mention Dr. Bietz's dying his hair. There are better ways to celebrate and reward people without stepping over the line from God's Kingdom to Satan's. A lot of church members don't see that line any more because they've been growing more and more accustomed to the ways of the world - loud, beaty music and dancing and silly things. Where is the glory of God in all this? They are "celebrating" a successful mission fundraiser. Quote James Brenneman
