Dr. Shane Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Feminine twist on classic menswear at Fashion Week Quote: Luxe textures, sheer fabrics and fitted shapes offering feminine twists on traditional men's suiting are all over the runways at New York Fashion Week. It's strength combined with confidence, boy style, by Day 5 of fall previews... He of global brand launched his collection with menswear more than 25 years ago. He returns to those roots next season, reinterpreting them for women. A gray herringbone double-breasted jacket with matching wide-leg trousers set the borrowed-from-the-boys mood, emphasized by New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire in the front row. There were glen plaids, peacoats and jackets with leather patches on the elbows. Handkerchiefs peeked out of pockets... A lot of these outfits appear to be much more modest than some of the lady's more feminine outfits. I like the look of a woman in a suit jacket and tie. Of course, that is just my taste. I have had a hard time convincing my wife to dress that way. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Moderators LynnDel Posted February 15, 2011 Moderators Posted February 15, 2011 Men's and women's clothing in Bible times were almost identical, if the depictions in Maxwell's "The Bible Story" are correct. I tend to think that the verse meant that one should dress so as not to confuse the onlooker as to which gender you are. Some of us women would have to work extremely hard to look like a man. Anonyme Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Good afternoon. I wear skirts only at the moment. If you don't mind, I would like to know what you would call the garment below. Some problems have arisen when Westerners have tried to apply their own interpretation of what women's clothes rightfully are in places where women do not wear skirts and dresses but garments like those featured below. As it is not spelled out to use exactly which clothes "pertain to man" and "pertain to women", how would it relate to this type of clothing? I could not paste in pictures so please copy and paste the links below. I would be very interested to hear people's thoughts. I read that in some cultures, garments like those above which have versions for both men and women are differentiated by colour or pattern. They do not show the female form and appear comfortable. I would be grateful to hear your thoughts based upon your expertise in this subject. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 2, 2011 Moderators Posted March 2, 2011 Welcome to the Forum, Anonyme. Those are interesting clothes. Are they commonly worn in Turkey by both men and women? I think the principle we must take from the Bible is that there be clear differences between the sexes, between men and women. That difference might be in the colors or in the design, but in all cultures there are differences made, and the Bible simply says that men should not be dressing as women or women as men. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted March 2, 2011 Moderators Posted March 2, 2011 But the same could be said about a man in a woman's dress or skirt-- he could look not like a woman but like a man in a dress, but that wouldn't make it OK. The same applies to women: even though they are not trying to look like a man, they shouldn't wear men's clothes. But the mere wearing of pants is not wrong if the pants are made and designed for women. In Scotland, men wear a kind of skirt but it is made for men, and therefore it is perfectly fine. What the Bible prohibits is for men to wear women's clothes and for women to wear men's clothes. God doesn't want the sexes to be confused because it confuses the image of God in us, just as does marriage or sex between two members of the same gender. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Anonyme Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi all. Happy Sabbath!!! I did not reply to your posts sooner simply because I did not know how the forum worked, so I was surprised to find all of these comments when I returned! Thank you very much...
