LifeHiscost Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 This was an email forwarded about a true experience. Seemed worthy of consideration for all those who have loved ones they wish to keep safe. God blesses! Quote: Please pass on to all your girlfriends, wives, etc. Just to be on the safe side. Please be aware and pass it on to anyone you think this will help. Sunday afternoon around 5 PM I headed into the Target. It was still light outside and I parked fairly close to the entrance. As I got out of my car and began walking towards Target, an older lady shouted to me from the passenger seat of a car about 30 feet away from me. "Ma'am you must help me, help me please, help me Ma'am!" I looked at her in the eyes and started to walk towards her when I remembered an email my Mom had sent me a week or two ago about rapists and abductions using elderly people to lure women in. I paused, memorized the license plate and immediately headed into Target to get a manager to come help this lady, just in case something was up. While the woman manager headed out there, I kept a close watch just because I was curious what was wrong with the lady and wanted to be sure nothing happened. As the Target lady walked up towards the car and got very close to the old woman in order to help her, the back door of the car flies open and a large man with a stocking cap on, jumps out and sticks a gun to the lady's stomach as he shoves her into the back of the car. I yelled out "call 911" several times and just as I was saying that, a policeman who happened to be on the other side of the parking lot and who, luckily had seen the entire thing happen, raced over to the car. He was able to stop the car and arrest the male as well as the old lady, who was involved in the scheme. By God's grace everyone was all right, including myself, although I think we were both shaken up. Like many of you, I would not in a million years have left an elderly person who was yelling for help if it weren't for the e-mail I had read last week. So, I wanted to pass this along so you all can be aware and remember that you really can't trust anyone these days. You just never know when something like this could happen. I would have never dreamed it to happen to me especially on a Sunday afternoon at a Target in a safe area! It definitely was not a coincidence that my Mom sent that email just a few days before this all happened. Please, be careful and always be aware of your surroundings. Just because you individually don't go over to help someone doesn't mean you have to leave them in trouble, but don't go ALONE, you really don't know what might be going on. This was checked with Snopes - this is true and they also use children to lure the victim! Please pass on to all your girlfriends, wives, etc. Just to be on the safe side. Please be aware and pass it on to anyone you think this will help. "And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved."Matthew 24:11-13 NLT BTW My wife was approached by a "nice young man" while I was parking the car in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, broad daylight in the foyer situated at the entrance just as one enters the store. She described the incident later when we left and found a clasp, nice fake gold plated, missing from her purse. A couple days later under similar circumstances my wife again told me about this very rude young lady who jostled her and then just took off without a word of apology. As we left the parking lot again, we found $60 missing from her purse. We stopped taking valuables with us in her purse, when we went shopping and I no longer leave her by herself while I park the car. That decision after the next incident in which her empty purse disappeared while we were at the same store. This all happening in a friendly rural town of about 10,000 residents, albeit a town where many transients pass through on their way elsewhere. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

It is a shame that this bias had to be included in what otherwise was important information. Quote His child Henry Bible student/Author https://www.loudcry101.com
Administrators Gail Posted February 17, 2011 Administrators Posted February 17, 2011 Yes, I'm sure it happens but this story gave me the impression that it was a scam, despite its insistence that it wasn't. It's like the phony virus warnings that claim that they are fresh from Microsoft. It's always a good idea to be informed and aware, though. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted February 17, 2011 Administrators Posted February 17, 2011 It is another one of those alarmist false reports - so says Snopes - http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/targetlure.asp . Those that make these stories up and those that get their perverse jollies spamming the world with them have started adding to the fiction by adding the false assurance that Snopes confirms that it is true. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Moderators John317 Posted February 17, 2011 Moderators Posted February 17, 2011 Yes, and don't enough bad things actually happen in the world without people making more up?! Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Would it exclude the counsel for moving to the small towns prepatory to moving to the country, or is that counsel also considered a bias? Or again would the fact that transient population need to survive somehow, even at the expense of the local populace? God blesses!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
MariaS Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Today's sermon was about watch and Pray. It says we are too expert in watching the signs of the time until we have been numbed and can not see the urgency of the time that awaits us. Let us continue to work our salvation with fear and trembling. Quote The rules of life - Love and serve God - Remember choices, not circumstances, determine the flavor of our lives - Live each day so that you'll never be afraid of tomorrow nor ashamed of yesterday
LifeHiscost Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Today's sermon was about watch and Pray.It says we are too expert in watching the signs of the time until we have been numbed and can not see the urgency of the time that awaits us. Let us continue to work our salvation with fear and trembling. If one is watching for signs so they will know when to get serious about being ready to meet the Lord in peace, I would agree that there are those in that position. However for those who feel everyday is an opportunity to give whatever they have available, to help another establish their personal trust in Jesus, their connection to the Holy Spirit is enough to place them beyond the lethargy generated by selfish interests. Then every sign that comes to their attention indicating the nearness of Jesus coming brings great inner excitement and deep peace, especially that the trials of this world will at last and soon be over. " Agitate, agitate, agitate. The subjects which we present to the world must be to us a living reality. It is important that in defending the doctrines which we consider fundamental articles of faith we should never allow ourselves to employ arguments that are not wholly sound. These may avail to silence an opposer, but they do not honor the truth. We should present sound arguments, that will not only silence our opponents, but will bear the closest and most searching scrutiny. With those who have educated themselves as debaters there is great danger that they will not handle the word of God with fairness. In meeting an opponent it should be our earnest effort to present subjects in such a manner as to awaken conviction in his mind, instead of seeking merely to give confidence to the believer."Testimony Treasures Volume 2, Page 313 Bold Emphasis mine LHC "Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think."Ephesians 3:20 NLT God blesses!
