Administrators Gail Posted February 18, 2011 Administrators Posted February 18, 2011 I just got some insurance renewed. While I was at the desk the client beside me was telling the agent her stolen car news. I remember reading this in the local paper but it was the first time I'd encountered anyone who actually had this done to her. The thieves played around a bit with the CD player but the main things they took was the car's registration and the garage door opener. That would freak me out, too! Moderators james423 Posted February 19, 2011 Moderators Posted February 19, 2011 Just about as scary as hosing off the ashes at your feet on a fire scene and finding a man's partly burned body. Did that one Sabbath morning when Sabbath School was going on. Quote James Brenneman
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted February 19, 2011 Administrators Posted February 19, 2011 Since many people enter their house through their garage, car thieves use the registration to get the address and the opener to get in the house, since people typically leave the inside garage door into their house unlocked. And garages often have stuff worth stealing in them. If this happens it is very easy to reprogram a garage door opener. If done immediately, the opener in the hand of the thief is useless without the new code. Another tip - if you have an extra car that you have to leave parked in the driveway or on the street, don't leave a garage door opener in it, especially in the usual plain sight place on the visor. Thieves break into the car and now have easy entry to the house. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Moderators Gerr Posted February 19, 2011 Moderators Posted February 19, 2011 Thanks for that tip, Tom. Now I'll have to reprogram the automatic opener that came with my car. I had it programmed, but then for some reason it quit working and it was more convenient to use the opener that came with the gadget. Quote
Amelia Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I keep my registration in my wallet, and my wallet on my person.
