Dr. Shane Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I was once at a prayer meeting where a "historic" Adventist got in an argument with the pastor about whether a person could live without sinning. Since the pastor failed to be convinced, the historic Adventist challenged him to step outside so they could settle like men. The pastor decided he didn't need to settle it like a man and stayed seated at the table. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

I hope!!!! Sorry, just another failed attempt at humor. No one should punch anyone for any reason. Particularly a professed Christian. I thought that would be self-evident and the anomaly who invited the pastor to settle like a man may have said the same thing to a woman pastor. However I stand by my statement that, given the right circumstances, and the absence of the Holy Spirit in control of the life (like the above), every one on this forum is capable of the same behavior."Though all these may forsake you,yet I will never forsake you"(Simon Peter) Quote

Moderators lazarus Posted February 25, 2011 Moderators Posted February 25, 2011 Hope this is not off topic, we can start another threat if needs be. The following is an interesting comment I found below the article Abelisle posted: Like or love Ted, it's not actually about Ted from a sociological point of view. He is a manifestation, one of many possibles, of the church at this time. He may seem to be a free agent but he is not. He emerged because of the nature of the church and perceived needs at this time. It is those qualities that rose to the top and meant he was selected. Of course some personality and historical factors come in, but they are modifiers not the real reason. He is speaking what vast numbers are voicing and yearning. He is saying the things that vast numbers want to hear. Someone from a very different intellectual/theological/social approach would have not been elected at this time. He has said things that resonate with many and the more he says things the more he has to back them up. Challenging and changing the Andrews University theological training around spiritual formation was inevitable. He has no choice but to challenge and change that because of what was said in the inaugural speech and continuing speeches. His election victory speech was forthright and reflected what many are thinking and feeling. It was a mirror of large segments of Adventism. Now he has to act on those strong statements or he remains incongruent and merely hot air. A chain of events elected him and his speech came out of that, and now that has set in motion a following chain of events. He cannot stand back and allow things to unfold on their own. He was chosen for a reason and he is not a puppet. He is the embodiment of those reasons and they have shaped him and will continue to shape him. He is being authentic. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have got to be in that position. He is doing what he has been constructed and created to do and be. I may disagree with him, but that won't change much. Because it's not about Ted, it's about the system that has manifested and created him. In more than 7 days, mind you! He has evolved (or devolved?!) BSW Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Pride is such a terrible thing. Regardless which direction it comes from. To be jealous for one's church is commendable; however, violence has never been appropriate in the times of which we live. We are living in the anti-typical Day of Atonement. We are to individually put sin aside and live for Christ Jesus. If one thinks that it is okay to keep sinning that is pride. If one thinks that apostasy can be checked through violence that is pride. To live like Christ is to allow the Holy Spirit to mold us into His likeness. Only this way are we safe. We as Seventh-day Adventists must remember that when the closing scenes of this earth’s history are upon the faithful it is the so called "church" that will force the legislature to establish a Sunday law. These folks will think they are doing good when in reality it is evil. When we are one with Christ, we will have a power that will enable us to die the second death if it were possible, to save a lost soul. Hallowed be thy name Christ Jesus. Quote
