Woody Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 what difference would you see in a Baptist Church or any other Christian compared to going to an Adventist Church? Would you experience care and love? Would they welcome you? Would they pray for you? Would you find them sincere? Would they search for Truth or just want to do their own pleasure and reject what Truth they found. Are they serious or just fake? Would they argue doctrines and neglect love? Would they address the needs of the community? What ARE these other churches like? Are they knowingly rejecting the Sabbath? Are they just not intelligent enough to understand the Sabbath? Or is the Sabbath a hard doctrine to understand? Will they be lost because of their ignorance? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted February 27, 2011 Members Posted February 27, 2011 That's not an easy question/s to answer. But I'll try answering it this way. We had some friends that were from a different denomination. We would talk every once in awhile about our difference's. What we found was yes they were very loving christians, etc. They had changed denominations about 2 or 3 times. The reason was they were looking for a church that suited the way they wanted to believe. When asked if they ever read or studied the Bible, the answer was, NO. A few reasons they didn't care for the Adventist church is, they couldn't eat unclean foods (they couldn't give up pork, lobsters, etc.), they heard that they couldn't dance, drink coffee, etc. As far as the Sabbath they really had no idea, but most worshiped on Sunday so that had to be correct. I've heard this from many other Christians. Besides it seems that that's not important for them. I personally have found that convienace(sp) is the number one priarity(sp) for most other denominations. Now I'm not saying that that means they are not dedicated Christians. I don't think you can say that about Adventists, there's nothing convient about being an SDA. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Very excellent point. I have no doubt that there is much truth in what you say. But, I suspect you will find the same kind of apathy in the SDA church. Once they find the Sabbath truth they settle back and just do the church thing, rarely open their Bibles and do what is convienent for themselves. Sabbath becomes a duty. They become robotic. I really appreciate the point you bring out but don't feel it is exclusive to any particular denomination. (once someone becomes an SDA.) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. SivartM Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I don't think you can say that about Adventists, there's nothing convient about being an SDA. There certainly is if you were raised Adventist, as I think most Adventists were. People tend to think that their experience is more genuine than that of others. Other Christians could just as easily wonder if Adventists ever study the Bible, or are in it for convenience. People will talk as if their religion is the most loving, and wonder if other people don't see "the truth" because they are willfully blinding themselves or they are just deceived. The truth is that they wonder the same thing about you. Even many atheists find it hard to believe that religious people really believe in a "magical sky daddy". But most people are just as sincere as you. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus

What I'm saying is we don't work on the Sabbath (other than RNs, Doctors, Police, Firemen, etc.), most other Christians but a few would have no problem working on Sunday. How about watching TV (other than 3ABN, Hope Channel or any other Christian network) on the Sabbath. Eating unclean food. No one is saying that they are not sincere, and they are probably more sincere than I am. :) Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Okay folks ... raise your hands. How many of you are watching news on Sabbath (other than Fox News which has an exemption.)? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Liz Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I think that if you go into these other churches with the attitude of worshipping with other "believers" then, yes, they will welcome you with open arms. However, if you go in thumping them with "Bible truth", then understandably they will be defensive. Then after a couple of weeks of worshipping with them, you could always host informal Bible studies in your home. I am a strong believer in finding what one is looking for, if you are looking for sincere, Bible reading, seekers of Truth Christians in any congregation then that is what you will find; on the flip side, if you look for apathetic pew warmers, then you will find them too. As for the second part of your post, about the Sabbath. You won't know the answer to that until you get to know the people themselves.
