Moderators Bravus Posted February 27, 2011 Moderators Posted February 27, 2011 My younger brother, Paul Geelan, is now Pastor Paul Geelan as of last Sabbath. We went down to Lismore, the church he pastors about 2.5 hours south of here, for his ordination service. Dad and my sister came up from the Cooranbong area, about 8 hours south of Lismore, as well, and our uncle Barry and his wife Heather also came down from Brisbane. Paul graduated from Avondale with a business degree, and worked in that field for a while, but began to feel a calling to the pastoral ministry. He did some evangelism training with Doug Batchelor (some words from a congratulatory email from Doug were read out in the service) and pastored a couple of churches, settling at Lismore for the past 3 years. I'm biased, of course, but he's an excellent, thoughtful minister. He studies his Bible a huge amount and prepares his sermons with thought, prayer and care. One of the things they mentioned was that at his first meeting with the church board he presented his year's schedule of preaching topics and outlined the pan for why each topic was important to the development of the church. That didn't surprise me at all. The church seems to be growing and vibrant, with a wide spread of ages and not many empty pews. I'm very, very proud of him. Quote Truth is important

Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted February 28, 2011 Moderators Posted February 28, 2011 Congratulations, Bravus! Your brother has some of your genes, I can tell [smart, studies a lot, well organized, etc.] --and it's obvious he's had a call to the ministry. Blessings on him, and on your whole family. Planey Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Knowing Paul when he was younger it is no surprise to me that he is now a pastor and obviously a very good one. Congratulations to Paul on being now 'pastorised' and I can understand the family being so proud, you deserve to feel that way. Please pass on my best wishes. Moderators Bravus Posted February 28, 2011 Author Moderators Posted February 28, 2011 Will do, Planey. Jeannie, he is also far more diligent than me! I kind of scraped through high school on talent and gall and luck, he worked very hard and got much better grades. Quote Truth is important
