fergus Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hi all, about the keeping of the sabbath day, as the bible is teaching us, the sabbath last from the friday sunset to the saturday sunset. Regarding the 4th commandement in the book of exodus 20, it is normal for me to rest the saturday, to not work or study or take an exam, and to worship and praise God that day. The problem is the fact that the way days are divided in the modern civilisation doesn't correspond well to the way that the bible is dividing the days: in fact, according to the modern civilisation, a day begins from midnight and last to the next midnight; so the administration, the school, etc. are organized according that, while the bible is saying that a day begins from an evening to the next evening. So I had always thought that asking at the same time to be free of work from friday evening, and also of saturday, seem to me like if I ask 2 days off. I never thought before, that continuing working after the sunset of friday, if my director require me to do a task, nor taking an exam, or following a class after the sunset of friday was making me to be wrong with the biblical teaching about the sabbath keeping. But a discussion with my girlfriend who think I should not take an exam on friday after the sunset, push me to seek the thruth about that. What would you do? What do you think? How to be right with the bible teachings, knowing that there is that difference between the biblical dividing of days, and the way we usually do it. If you have any proposition of reading, they will be welcome. Thank you. Quote
Woody Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yes. The Sabbath is a 24 hour period from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. In the world ... doing God's way though is never easy. You have a Canadian Constitution right for freedom of faith, and it includes this, and the Canadian Gov't will stand up for you. Canada has a Bill of Rights for a reason, this is one of them.
