Woody Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Quote: "All these great people died in faith. They did not get the things that God promised His people, but they saw them coming far in the future and were glad. They said they were like visitors and strangers on earth.... they were waiting for a better country - a heavenly country. So God is not ashamed to be called their God, because he has prepared a city for them." Heb. 13+16 NCV Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. The only thing in question is whether whether God will fulfill those promises now or later. Woody Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Good point Life. I forgot to add the word NOW to the title. The scripture I quoted clearly points out that His promises may not be fulfilled NOW but that we have the future to look forward to. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Administrators Gail Posted March 7, 2011 Administrators Posted March 7, 2011 These people did not receive THAT promise in their lifetime. It's still coming. But Abraham did receive the promise of a son born of his body, and help in delivering Lot. Samson received the answer to his prayer of dying with the Philistines (having the strength to pull down the building). We might have to wait for what we want. But we even have the assurance that being that we don't know what we should pray for as we ought that the Holy Spirit will intercede for us. God is FOR us! Have faith! :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Woody Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 Quote: Everything that God has promised IS what is best for us. Not all of God's promises are what we as an individual need. But what He gives us is what we need. We can go to the bank on that. Let me mention John 14: "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do" So I pray .. " In the name of Jesus ... give me a million bazillion dollars". I don't think that is going to necessarily be God's will and what is best for me. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Sister White said "to pray in the name of Jesus is something more than a mere mention of that name at the beginning and the ending of a prayer. It is to pray in the mind and spirit of Jesus, while we believe His promises, rely upon His grace, and work His works." Steps to Christ, pp. 100-101. We will not be asking for a million bazillion dollars if we are praying with His mind and spirit. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. A follow up question though: Does this mean that His promises are only for those who "are praying with His mind and spirit"? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 No, His promises are for everyone. But He respects our freedom of choice, and can only fulfill them to us when we give him permission by our prayers. Also, we cannot even receive the benefits from his fulfilled promises unless we have first received his mind and spirit. If we haven't, we will abuse them and they will do more harm than good, to ourselves and to others. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
