Importance of knowing the Word well.

This morning I woke up for the second time, with my wife lying awake close by. Now she has a memory that serves her for 15 seconds, if that long, and when questioned about how long she had been awake, she replied, "Most of the night." Then she went on to explain how she had been talking with her mother on the phone for awhile and she was expressing the joyful experience she had been having with her.

Now the problem with that is that we do not have a landline and her memory disallows her use of the cellphone (landline too for that matter). This of course with the fact that her mother has been dead for over 30 years.

Now she and I enjoy daily worship with God, mainly through prayer and reading of the Scripture. Sometimes we will enjoy a sermon and that also suffices to satisfy our desire to stay close to Them, Jesus and our Father in Heaven. During those times she and I can discuss in detail, deep and profound truths of the Word, with her understanding at a depth that would make some people covet her experience.

That tells me that our Father is able to converse with her in the language with which she is able to clearly pick up.

So, after her protestations that I needed to believe she had really been talking to her mother, we proceeded to look up some Scriptures that told of the reality of death. These below were the ones that helped her understand that her mother was not truly the one she had been talking to, and if not the devil himself, then the recognition that it was just a dream.

The devil attacks us at our weakest points, and her's happens to be her memory right now. Therefor I felt she needed to be persuaded by her strongest recognition, the Word.

"There is hope only for the living. As they say, “It’s better to be a live dog than a dead lion!”

The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, nor are they remembered. Whatever they did in their lifetime—loving, hating, envying—is all long gone. They no longer play a part in anything here on earth."Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 NLT

"Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep."John 10:9-11 NLT

My wife is now sleeping peacefully, I believe as a result of living by the Word.

Daniel 12:2; 8, 9 and 13. This should prove beyond any doubt that those who die the physical death are sleeping in do not know anything that is going on around them.

The promise is that the Holy Spirit will bring to our remembrance whatever we need to think of at the time we need it. God knows how to reach a heart. I pray that she be at peace always!

Thank you, Gail, for your interest and concern. Yes is the answer to your wondering. While more often than not, in our 33 years with each other I've probably been the one most often to fire from the hip, whereas she has been always the patient, understanding person, ever ready to take second place rather than force her ideas ahead of mine.

When I first met her she was still recovering from a divorce that was the result of 18 years of abuse, both mental and physical.

She reminded me of a wounded bird, unable to fly because of a broken wing. I knew if I acted as I normally might under perceived provocation, I would crush her, so I determined to apply the Amplified version of what love is, and we've been deliciously happy with each other ever since.

We give all the praise to Jesus Who promised to abide with us if we would invite Him into our lives and we've never been disappointed.

I don't mean we've always been perfect in our responses to each other, only that her patience and love has blended with my lack so that we've decided to leave this world together when we go.

We don't know how the Lord is going to work it out, but we're hoping it will be as we see Him coming in the clouds of glory.

Thank you especially for your prayer of peace for her. Since you are praying for that, I will also and so we will be able to claim this promise.
