Guest Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Easter is regarded as THE ..Christian Holiday of the year... There are special fancy early worship servies on Sunday morning. One of my favorite hymns ..even in our hymnal is .. Christ the Lord is risen today...sung in many Protestant and Catholic churches on Easter Once requested it for a sabbath service.the day before Easter.and an elder said something like....well it is for tomorrow so didn't really fit..whatever... Since SDA's are so knowledgeable about paganism corrupting the PURITY of the church with everything under the SUN.. like the cross, Christmas, Dec 25, SUNday, SUNday laws , 666...,other holidays, jewelry, apparel...yaddie..yaddie yaddie.. Do you think Easter is regarded as a bummer..?? to SDA's..something to have some special music and have some lillys up front and then blow it off?? I can't ever remember hearing a sermon about the resurrection on the sabbath before Easter... not surprising since most sermons are NFDMTTS anyway.. Then there is this semi unpopular thing about chocolate...so maybe that bums some legalists out about chocolate bunnies, EGGS and candy and bunches of color stuff too. I can handle that... I just wonder if this withdrawel from being contaminated by paganism has made it so that SDA's are kinda snobbish and exclusive...and resentful of the TIGHT life they don't want to really experience.. catch my drift??? Here is another thing.. Ya know how people say this "HAPPY SABBATH " greeting at church? Well on Easter... I hear this..."HE IS/HAS RISEN" greeting in other church circles...the response is .."HE IS RISEN INDEED" don't know if any of you have heard that... So any thoughts on any of this? The mixed feeling , bad taste, Easter observance?? HE IS RISEN..... Quote
cricket Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 He is risen, indeed! JB7, yes, I've heard this. I hear it every time we attend Lutheran services on Easter. Last Sunday, Palm Sunday, the greeting was the standard, "Peace be with you," and the response, "Also with you!" Even so, it becomes a drone way of greeting when it is done repititiously week after week. It loses all meaning, just as "Happy Sabbath" loses meaning when Adventists use it over and over. Tonight my family and I shared a special dinner. We watched The Passion of the Christ together and are now in a different mind-set than when we began the day. Easter, as with Christmas, has a lot of pagan history. My response? So what? I'm not celebrating our Lord's resurrection as pagan ritual. I'm celebrating because it is a time that I can experience renewed focus. If there is anything sinful about renewing my focus on the Lord, then, and only then, would I refrain. Until someone can show me Biblically that I should refrain from seeking a better relationship with Him, I will continue to seek Him out in a special way at this time of year. Chrys Quote
Pockey Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 For the first time in my life, I really care about this weekend because of what He has done for us. Today is a special day, as is tommorow, the Sabbath, and Easter, when He has risen. Quote
