Administrators Gail Posted March 13, 2011 Administrators Posted March 13, 2011 What part of your country's history do you really like? Me, I like fur traders and Mounties. Dottie Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 That part is not just our country's history, it's mine. Quote
Dottie Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 My brother and nephew are cowboys. They ride, rope, cut, carry guns. What part of that is not a true cowboy? Quote
Liz Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Dottie, by "true" cowboy, I meant not the guys that buy the boots, jeans and hat and "think" that makes them "cowboys". I mean, true-blue, they work the land, they know the herd, they ride for the brand, they are true to their word, cowboys. And I like that you can still find that part of living history here. :) Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? cricket Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I'm sorry if I somehow offended you personally, Dottie. That was not my intention. Regards. Quote

The extent to which such things happen is actually decreasing and has been for decades. The problem is one of perception, not reality. Our kids have always played just like that, and been perfectly safe. Quote Truth is important
cricket Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Welp...sorry if somehow I offended you too. I stand corrected. Last post. Ever. Done. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted March 14, 2011 Moderators Posted March 14, 2011 I'm being authentic, not politically correct, when I say the bit of my country's history I like most is probably the pre-European Aboriginal history. It's much longer (40,000 years versus not much over 200). I'm not in some Noble Savage maze of illusion - the Aboriginal people lived a difficult life much of the time, and also had their wars and other issues. But their tales of the Dreaming, their association with the land and the animals that inhabit it, their cave paintings and ceremonies, it's all just fascinating to me. The history we learned at school was also very interesting - Captain Cook claiming Australia for England (nearly said 'discovering' but the Dutch and French both got here first), Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson finding a way through the Great Dividing Range into the interior, Captain Arthur Phillip mapping the coastline in his tiny rowboat and so on. It's *all* interesting, but if I had to pick I'd pick the times before the big white sails appeared on the horizon. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted March 14, 2011 Moderators Posted March 14, 2011 Welp...sorry if somehow I offended you too. I stand corrected. Last post. Ever. Done. Not offended, at all. Sorry if it came across that way. Quite the reverse, I was trying to reassure you and everyone else. The truth is important. Kids playing is important. And if not knowing the truth stops kids being allowed to play, that's a tragedy. I honestly thought you'd like to know. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I think my favorite part of US history is our space program which lead us to walk on the moon and build the space station. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Moderators John317 Posted March 14, 2011 Moderators Posted March 14, 2011 I love the Indians of North America, their history, culture, myths, everything. My favorite tribes are the Apache, Navaho, and Sioux. I also very much like the history of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War periods. (I had ancestors on both sides of the Civil War, and some also in the Revolutionary War.) I'm glad Lincoln and the North won the war, but my main interest for study and reading is the Confederacy. I love studying, too, the history of the US Presidents and the White House, and WW II. My favorite presidents are Lincoln, Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. I also have great interest in the history of the California Missions established by the Catholic Church. I really enjoy Arizona history and love the state. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Bravus Posted March 14, 2011 Moderators Posted March 14, 2011 The space program is an amazing event in *human* history, and just one of the very cool things the USA has done for humanity. Quote Truth is important
